What happaned to my fps ? #2

Hi.
Here's the problem:
Like a week ago I started ET and I noticed that my fps is horrible. At some places on every map my fps is very bad, BUT only at some exact places on the maps. It's kinda strange because if I host a server for example on grush axis backspawn I can easly have 200-300 fps but when i am standing on the bridge and watching the tower it drops to ~80. And it happens on every other map...
So when I did everything that was possible
- Cleaned my pc
- Reinstalled ET / Installed on another HDD
- Reinstalled GFX drivers / Installed oldest / newest.
- Scanned my PC for viruses.
- Reinstalled windows
- Checked gfx/hdd/gpu temperatures and all of them were fine (between 30°-48° after playing for ~ 1hour)
but these didn't help

I made a full clean windows install, deleted everything from my PC. I made new partitions and then I got my FPS back. I could play with stable & good fps for 2days, but yet again today it started to do the same thing, fps drops.

My pc specs:
HD 4850 512GDDR3
Core 2 Duo E4600 @ 2.4Ghz
2048Mb @ 533 Mhz

Any idea how to fix it?
Thank you! Cya!

sounds to me like CPU not tried any other speeds while overclocking under (from 1.8ghz stock) 2.5Ghz and even then I only did prime95 tests, currently runs at 2.69Ghz and even then I only get bad fps at times!

Try o/cing, your CPU is > mine!
I don't understand what you just said. :/
I never had fps problems before, it came like from day to another day. I never had my cpu overclocked before and I was always able to get stable 125 fps on every stage of the maps.
It seems more like some gpu problems for me, or don't know but it's kinda weird I get stable 125fps like 30% of the map ( even while running/jumping w/e ) and when I reach exact places it drops to 80 and if I keep staying/looking there it doesn't want to get back to 125.
Do you know any programs I can overclock my CPU. Or should I simply do it in the BIOS ? (I am kinda newbie at this part)
E: forgot to mention that doesn't matter if I am alone on the server or 20 more players are there, the same happens just with 20fps difference ( dunno if it matters )

Try Crap cleaning shit not sure about harddrive causing problems though which I think you're suggesting, mine runs from my 'backup' partition which has like 4GB/250GB and still flickers.

Make sure everything is on lowest at Nvidia/ATI control system. If you want to overclock then you'd use the bios, but i dont want to tell you that and then see a journal 2 months later sayinG BACK WITH NEW PC cause you fried your old one, read up a little on overclocking so you know what youre doing.

www.ccleaner.com :)

I already used ccleaner before and after the full format, didn't change anything.
Parent
This is really weird!

Tried setting priority to see if that helps at all? :)
Parent
yeah
I use the highest priority for et and always set the affinity on the 1st core, but still the same
e: I really start to believe that something fucked up in my pc, gpu/cpu or the memory.
But programs don't give me those results
Also in cod2 I can have stable 125 fps everywhere without drops

No matter what you do, no matter if your pc is new or old. You just get fps drops and restarting ET "sometimes" solves it. Not in my case.

I did all what you did and nothing worked. Im starting to think this is a connection issue and nothing about pc specifications like hdd or graphics card. My pc is quite old, but more than enough to run ET at 125 stable like it used to. However those 125 become 70 60 80 changing constantly, when that happens is really difficult to play, not worth becoming unhit cause you just wont hit a shit.

His CPU is more than enough to run the game smoothly without overclocking.
The sad conclusion I get is this game is too old and really bad optimized, too much CPU dependent which fucks us dual cpu users and each time I read this problem is someone with an ATI card.
Why would my ISP affect on my fps ?
I don't think it was a coincidence that my fps got better when i made a full format.
e: i shut down my inet connection, rebooted my pc and hosted a server and still fps drops, it cant be my connection
Parent
so why my fps drop if im connected at facebook for example? or if I have firefox windows opened or why does pb lags affect fps... im just curious too about the relation between connection and fps.
Parent
because fb meaby is a site that has alot of adds and shit,

pb scans your pc for cheats

there is no connection to fps and your connection,..

Fps is frames per second that you graphcard sends and i dont think that your graphcard is connected to the internet?
Parent
thanks... ill search for something similar in the ATI control center.
Parent
I can't find settings like those in the catalyst.
Do you know any programs for ati to see those settings ?
Parent
Et is just fucked up game, cant get a stable 125 fps even tho i can get easily in cod4
same for me now, but like a month ago I used to have stable 125 fps in both games
Parent
Make sure priority is set to realtime and affinity to both cores, that's what made my fps drop epicly :$
but you have to do this once ET is running and every time no?
Parent
Unfortunately yes. :*
Parent
affinity should be set to one core (at least with coreduo).
Parent
I always put my quad on all of 'm cause otherwise I lag like hell..
Parent
Maybe, this will work enter your bios and disable EIST (Speedstep)
Didn't help. But what does it exactly do?
Parent
Scaling processor, when the CPU is on low usage it will downclock the CPU voltage and speed. When the CPU is on 50% or higher it will clock the CPU to his normal speed. Sometimes its bugged. I had the same sort of lag when i disabled that everything was fine again
