it is. look how wingers have trouble with receiving the ball near the line and many errors that lead to opponent's throw-ins. or through balls - if you dont catch the ball before it bumps you wont get it anymore. teams fear it and thats why they play so safely.

the old balls were slowing down after the bump, newer dont. it is arguable if thats good or bad. perhaps we're heading towards ideal play. rounder balls, flatter ground, more precise decisions (when they introduce replay-referees) - will players catch up though?
