Diego Forlan has been named Best Player at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Uruguay striker topped the prestigious poll of accredited media representatives ahead of the Netherlands’ Wesley Sneijder and Spain hitman David Villa. The 31-year-old Forlan took the starring role in his country’s heroic performance at the FIFA World Cup finals.

Obviously u are blinked by goals and offensive actions imo. Don't misunderstand me, he played a great tournament, but still wasn't the best player of the tournament. Forlan got all freedoms to do whatever he wants on the pitch, while 9 players did the dirty work for him. He wasn't bounded in any defensive tasks or something like that. As the best individual of a team with such a role like him it's much easier to look brilliant.

Players like Iniesta are judged too strict due to the high expectations, unlike a player like Forlan who plays for the most surprising team of the tournament. But the question is not 'who is the best player compared to the expectations?', the question is 'who showed the best performance at all?'.

forlan carried his team mainly offensive wise, so did schweinsteiger and inesta for the defense. As we all dont want 1-0 results, giving the ball to some1 doing the offensive part doesnt seem bad to me

Have you seen the games of Uruguay? Forlan was definatly the playmaker(correct english?)

Forlan is much more than just scoring, but the main thing is he decides games, he wins matches, thats what its all about.

And come on, be honest, its MUCH harder to play amazing in a team like Uruguay (where 90% doesnt play in a topclub) than Spain or Germany or any other top country. Basicly he got Uruguay to the semifinals with amazing football (assists, goals) and not to forget, he kept the team together and the teamspirit high


I agree, the players you mention were good (although I dont agree with van Bommel) and important to their team, but what Forlan did for Uruguay is a step further

I would put Mathijsen in for friedrich. Since he didnt make a single mistake this tournament as defender and no striker outplayed him. Best defender imo, also he didnt fail with constant pressure yesterday.

I see you a bit biased since Schweinsteiger was fucking amazing both attacking and defending so no doubt about him being better than busquets, also Xavi was good but they don't even play the same position with Müller so that's also not correct imo :) And for goalkeeper, Casillas/Neuer/Stekelenburg were the best 3 but I'd put Stekelenburg #1 cause of more "gamesavers" than Casillas and Neuer. Also Puyol wasn't THAT great or irreplaceable for his team, and had some failures like vs Robben in the final where he would have gotten a red card if Robben would have fallen..

well ok lets say Schweinsteiger, but still would replace xavi or someone else with müller(he played good, but would like to see someone else on his position), yeah stekelenburg played well and saved nl many times yesterday, but casillas did the same. I just prefer casillas(not that i dislike stekelenburg). Puyol played great against germany, but he had some problems yesterday. Actually your team looks almost like mine (just needs messi and maybe maicon)

Well there were so much good players in the tournament so it's hard to choose and you can never have the "BEST" which all would agree on :)

Maicon was brilliant idd but maybe a bit too early out of the tournament. Messi was kinda shit which was maybe a bit of maradonas fault..
