So it seems the Tour de France could be decided on the very last day in the Pyrenees when the race resumes Thursday with a 174-kilometer stage 17 from Pau to the top of the Col du Tourmalet. It will, of course, depend on the strength of both Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck, who go into this crucial stage separated by just eight seconds.
The day ends with the climb up the western side of the Col du Tourmalet, taking the riders to their Tour summit (for a second time in three days) at 2,115 meters. Eight seconds will seem very fragile, and if Schleck wins by maybe 90 seconds, then he may have a chance of winning the Tour de France in Paris.
Guaranteed--a battle of the titans.
