I am rereading C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia for an academic article I am writing. I am also halfway through Mas'udi's The Meadows of Gold too.
Long time ago :o
how are you?
Parent
It was painful enough reading your journal, the last thing I wanna do now i sopen a book.
I just read Great Expectations, give me suggestions for something that makes me feel intelligent as well.
Obvious answer: more Dickens...
Parent
Recommend me something (not necessarily Dickens :P)?

There are not many writers like Charles Dickens, but if you are interested in his humour then you could try Nikolai Gogol or Mark Twain, or if you are interested in bildungsromans (i.e. novels about people growing up from childhood to adulthood) then I suppose Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Henry Fielding, Gustave Flaubert, Robert Louis Stevenson or Charlotte Brontë (there are loads).

Personally, I would just read more Dickens if you liked Great Expectations; I read it last year alongside A Christmas Carol.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

The Glass Bead Game by Hermann Hesse.

The Collector by John Fowles is the best thing I've read in the past few years by a long way.
