Bibuy PSU!

My poor poor PSU has died :(

Last night I noticed that my computer started smelling like burned HW. When I turned it on this morning, it started going *BzZZZZzzzzZ* *FZzzZZzzZZ* etc. so I decided to turn it off again. This was when hell broke loose, as smoke started to rise from the back of the PSU, so now I am on my laptop. The worst thing, is that it's friday, which means that if I order a new PSU today, I wont be getting it before monday, unless I pay a huge amount of money to have it delivered tomorrow.

Any experts out there? I have been thinking of turning on the computer again, but I would think that it is probably not advisable to turn a PSU, which has providing a nice smoke cover for my livingroom!

Hmm. My good sir, I think your PSU has died. At least, that's my conclusion. I'm an expert.

What about actually leaving the house, going to the shop and getting one there?
Lea...ving?

Well, it's a heck of a lot cheaper buying HW online than in a store, at least here in Denmark it is. There is no way I am going to pay double the price, just to get it today :)

Ok twice as much is definitely too much. I got my PC from a local store and may have payed more than by buying the parts online but I did get a 5 year warranty on everything.

Eg. my PSU died as well after 3 years and I got a new one in a couple of days free of charge.

Yeah, I bought my computer already assembled aswell, so I could probably get a new psu for free. It would however take longer time than just buying a new one and the same type of psu is around 40 euros on teh web, so it's not much.

change your psu + pray that your motherboard is not affected
u could check your psu in a hardware store or smth like that,
they should have a measurement device
Check your mobo, it might have taken some damage too...
Does suck with weekend deliveries but at least you have something to use over the weekend until your new PSU arrived. Just hope nothing else have been affected now!
What brand and type PSU did you had?
And i wouldnt turn it on again, just hope that the PSU didnt take take any hardware. Last time i had PSU blowing up, my motherboard was also gone.
Inter-Tech Energon EPS-650W http://skinflint.co.uk/eu/a541635.html

I sure hope that nothing has been affected by the "blow-up", since it came after I had turned the computer off. It smelled like burned HW all night, last night and the puter worked fine this morning.

tbh it doesnt look like A brand powersupply.
Make sure you buy something like corsair/seasonic/cooler master/scythe/be quiet!/enermax/ocz/zalman/thermaltake. Burning plastic is the outside of capacitor. Be happy it didnt blow up badly, its like fireworks. Also if i see your computer specs, more than 500W is not neccesary. 650W is overkill.

years ago i had the very same thing, i used to cool my PSU with a table fan back then :)
it was working fine for another 2 weeks, then it finally died.
but it was a 250W PSU :D
just go to a local shop and buy a good psu :)))
