You know what's strange?! I'll tell you what's strange! In bowling, you get special shoes so you won't mess up the floor, but then you throw a 20kilo ball at it!!! That's strange!!!

well you see, it's actually not quite strange at all. the shoes are special so you dont scuff or track shit like dog crap or gum onto the bowling alley. secondly, if you bowl like you're supposed to then there will be a lot more horizontal velocity than vertical, thus resulting in no scuff considering bowling balls roll rather than drag. there's very little friction between a bowling ball and a bowling alley since it rolls

i think the floors are given a low vertical decline of something like 1-5° so the balls dont just get stuck in the middle. also helps decrease the scuff potential of the balls, too
