ET causing crashes

Right this is a last resort before I give on trying to fix it, hadn't played ET for a few months then randomly went to play one day and I kept crashing, no blue screen just a sound loop and have to hard reboot.

Originally thought it was a hardware problem but completely eliminated that and temps and stuff.

Thought it might of been windows so I formatted, no difference.

Used different drivers etc (even tho i hadn't updated them during the time i stopped playing)

Downloaded and installed a fresh ET, still the same, updated PB etc, still the same.


I then thought it might have something to the punkbuster services or something


This only happens in ET to no other game so thinkin it must be pb somehow.

Anyone any other ideas?

if it only happens in ET and not in other games, your cpu could cause it, i would check the cpu's temps and even test it to see if there are any failure. you probably played demanding games which uses your gfx card as it's main power in high resolutions
also, if you aren't updated, most fh the warservers don't use pb anymore so give it a test

Yea my temps are all fine, I originally thought it was my overclock to I reset my BIOS but it still happened, my temps are really low idling around 30/31 so no where near 90 or 100 under load.

Yea I was trying to use some non pb servers but I never know if thats the cause or not because sometimes it takes an hour to crash sometimes 2 or 3 minutes. Ill try it again later in a priv server.

sound looping comes a lot of times from the motherboard. it really sounds like something faulty in your cpu, those are the parts you should take a look at first. you can also do some memory tests, but i doubt it's the problem since it worked fine on other games

Haven't got a spare motherboard to check stuff with.. I had used memtest to check my ram, and swapped out my graphics card to.. Guess ill just have to live with no ET :(
