PC Probs

Hey having a few issues with the old dog... tried Googling but that's not really resulted in much.

Everytime my PC tries to do something (even a task as simple as loading a new webpage) the screen 'flickers'. Black horizontal stripes across the screen as if it's refreshing. It also crashes everytime I load up a game :(

Not done anything recently to update the pc so what the feck?! Any suggestions?

This pcs done all right for its age (7ish), does everything I need & it'd take an age to replace all the programmes on here just takes 10 mins or so to boot up.

Okay , okay :pPpPP !
gfx card is overheating or damaged
Bugger - how does one cool it down / test to see if damaged?

http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

download, install, check the tab "sensors" or have a look in the nvidia controlpanel

the easiest way to prevent overheating is to check if there's too much dust on the fan :P
if this doesn't decrease the temperature apply new thermal compound.

Yeah there was disgraceful amount of dust inside the base which has all been cleaned but that appears to have made things worse >/ trying the destktop fan atm which has made things slightly less bad but it's still fubar.

Fuckers :(

Nellie the I'm
Check your screen refreshrate and your monitor.
60hz 1024x768 - nothing abnormal

sounds like your gpu is broken.
Put your clockspeed of CPU and/or GPU lower
Next question I guess would be on a very limited budget is it worth just getting the same graphics card again? Nvidia GeForce 5200 (~£30 cheapish)

Rest of the system nothing good Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80ghz, 512mb ram
If anyone sees this :v

Managed to acquire another tower in the meantime but after a format the sound no longer works - google says this is a common problem but there's not a common answer. Helps?:(
