IRC does not exist to serve some silly internet game. Besides, some channels kickban for them - I would too.
Why not just put it in your fucking ircname or realname or something, if people care, they can just /whois you to see in which clan you are - or look at your channels.
Can be useful in community/competition channels to find e.g. your oppo IF everyone would just wear his tag and if that tag is known to everyone, but now that some use a tag, others dont, and others dont even know the tag, its a mess and it doesn't have any use :P
