In fact, the end of ET... oh wait...
but if etpro works with new ET then other mods will work too thats my argument
either that or we went up with a competitive only ET (2) like a crossfire version of ET for competitive play only but i dont think thats a good idea
Sad but true :/
Anyway, didn't read much about all your arguments all over here, just reacted to your idea "ET is dead as a public game, not as a competitive one"...
ETpro is stucked at the same position, not being updated for years while others mods did.
I don't know if you heard about n!tmod but it's a mod developed by a french guy, very optimised and complete, with a lot of new features.
He's trying to develop a competitive mod atm, the name would be "compET", dunno about it and some will certainly say that it will never replace ETpro but the whole thing could still be interesting, he's even coming up with new hitbox, more accurates than current ones...
if he wont then as you say a 'new' competitive mod will have to be created but then people will complain that it doesnt have the same feel as etpro etc... so its kinda risky but if it was coupled by a 'new et' then it could be ok
i dont think making the ET client especially for competition is a good idea though
theres some other stuff like accounts and stats tracking that could be done that appeal to public and competitive players and would add something new to the game without upsetting exisiting game play...
edit : About tracking stuffs and stats, it would be great but you need servers for that, who would pay ? We're not a company, we're a community.
all it takes is a database + website
personally i would have the interface as part of crossfire so you go to your profile and see your stats and shizzle and just maintain a database somewhere with the game interfacing with a php page which updates the database
its still one of the most competitve game after css/1.6/ql-q3/cod4 in the fps section
its really active, more than ever before
tho better graphics wont help
though multi threaded applications = trouble so might take a while
Conclusion: to change anything we would have to update ETPro mod (cause making everything from the beginning is almost impossible), and we can't do anything with ETPro because Bani will never release his source code :-)
ET client still has a fair few bugs iirc. There are many nice improvements that could be made to the client, for one I'd love a smart auto-record that actually named demos based on the teams in the game and might actually convince me to record demos.
We could also finally unlock stuff like ambientscale which should definitely be allowed but can't be enabled at the moment.
Well... FUCKING +1
:-D
- riflebugs when loading rifle
- showing how much ammo teammates below their ingame healthbars
- decent demofunction
- overall optimizations like grush tank 40 fps shit
- improve gfx a la cod4, i really wouldnt mind
custom hud in general
custom popups (think "x [THOMPSON] y" etc)
!
lets compile this shit somewhere

Hm, I'm currently thinking about setting up something like Bugzilla for all people to collect bugs and feature requests. Or better: Bugzilla for bugs and uservoice.com for feature requests.

No.
1) multi-cpu + multi-gpu support
2) real-time dynamic lighting for movies (madscientist?)
3) more graphical tweaks, eg. low-poly models, low-res textures, removing grass completely
4) better flamethrower (perhaps an alternative function)
5) better hitboxes
6) friends & toplist & achievements system (like cod or steam)
7) stronger panzerfaust
8) better scoped weapons
9) remove the sten's overheating
10) (torrent-like?) auto-update system, for the game, the mods and the maps
11) cs:s like smoke for covert ops, bigger and longer lasting, without fps drops
12) real-time hdr
13) real-time motion blur
Why would you want to remove the sten's overheat? It's the whole point of the gun - deadly accurate but you can't shoot with it forever.
covert ops is a quite useless class, it would be more attractive with the heatless sten. i bet almost every team would have one during matches, it adds more gameplay variety. but as mentioned above, there should be an option for settings this on or off.
2) Only for demos
3) +/-
4) hmm ?
5) ++
6) +/-
7) +/-
8) for ?
9) -
10) +
11) dunno
ET Need and optimization ( Maybe better netcode to )
8) less recoil or more damage
11) same as 6), it's shit while it's a great gameplay element
(remove the sten's overheating -1)
yes, after 8 years!
(just look how many ppl playin cs 1.6 nowadays! and its shittier then et )
demo rewinding, in-engine camera pathing, in-engine frame-blurring, direct capturing to avi
would be awesome
overview
Multi-threaded writes and gpgpu processing improve capture performance (50x)
Ingame cvars allow realtime preview and scripting of all settings
Off-screen rendering enables capture at any resolution even when minimized
Captures are sorted by demo name and timestamp
Console can be used while capturing
Enhanced capture precision allows timescaling at any given fps
features
Backward and forward demo seeking
Death animations
Demo synchronization with latency control
Depth of field with auto-focus or single targets
Fisheye lens
High dynamic range rendering
Motion blur
Popup filter
Screenshakes intensity control
few raw screens when i was messing around with image

go check image.et.exe .... q3 mme is NOT that different i must say...
there is also WRAP (by bitmap.se) and image.exe (by madscientist) but the best one is image-et.exe...
