So had this virus that didnt want to leave, decided to just reinstall windows xp.
But after the format and install of windows my pc states that I only have 117 GB (107 used)free space instead of the 220 or so after windows install that should be avi.
Now I tried another format, tried to check it with treesize (stated I only have 4 GB in use) neither helped, anyway need a solution to get my 100 gig back

C:
-NTFS
-231.325,7 MB size
-110.593,9 MB used
-120.731,7 MB Unused
Now the problem is that it has 110 gig used but it is no where to be found (only am able to find 4.5 gig of stuff on my pc atm)
so what should I do now :D
there are programs to check if ur HDD got bad sectors, but never used them so dunno names
used 3.2 gig
unused 120.7 gig
bad 107.4 gig
So I guess the missing space equals the bad stuff, how do I fix that if possible?
or google it
well, Partition Magic pro should be your solution somehow. maybe post a screenshot of the info that pm gives you?

when you installed, you formatted your hd? usually i delete my partition and make a new one assigning max mb to that one partition, i dont like splitting up into partitions.
maybe only set it to half the disk and havent formatted the second partition or something? again, post some screenies if you are really desperate for help
looking at the info you posted i think you made two partitions and you still need to format the second partition. that way you'll end up with two 110gb partitions, drive c:\ (where windows is installed) and drive d:\ (empty). you can then merge them, or possibly theres an option to add the unused space to the first partition.
also, when you bought a pc from a big vendor like HP (aka you didnt build it yourself) theres usually a part of the hd, a recovery partition to reinstall your pc but thats the 7gb you were talking about already
I called my brother (works in ICT) he told me to boot with windows cd and delete both partitions and just create a new one to install windows on, so I deleted both partitions, added up 250 gig
Next I tried to create a new partition and the maximum ammount I could add to the new one was 130 gig.Because that is kind of a low ammount my brother told me to do some scans in my BIOS to check if there are any errors in my harddisk and every test came out clean. So we just installed it on the 130gig partition and hoped for the best. So I am now running my computer on a 1 partition of 130 gig(and some 7MB thing)
This was the info I was refering to before:
used 3.2 gig
unused 120.7 gig
bad 107.4 gig
so basically the new partition just left out the bad disk space I guess
I can add a screen of partitionmagic at this moment(of the 130gig) but I doubt that is usefull, so unless you know of any device to restore the lost disk space (the bad 107 gig) it is most likely going to be a new pc (pc I have is like 6 years old anyway)
just buy a new hd :) bought 1TB last week for 60 euros or so, cant remember also bought some other shit
any idea?
