Shutter Island #

WOW what a amazing movie ! i mean it's not that i didnt expect a brilliant movie from martin scorcese though, but i didnt see the end coming

definatelly a must-watch and also highly underrated at imdb imo...

but one thing would have even be better:
the film should have ended in the light house scene, because the end would have been open and everything would have been possible, but that would maybe also drive some people nuts (including me :D)

i mean the chance is still there, but its now more like 90% insane -10% sane
the little rest still keeps everything possible, but actually the ending was pretty conclusive :<

indeed was great, loved it

i think hes clearly sane in the end, his last words ...
its possible, but it could also be the "cassette player rewind"-thing the doctor explained.but yeah i could also be that he pretends to be insane because he knows he doesnt have a chance otherwise

"Which would be worse, to live as a monster or to die as a good man? "
so either he can have the brain surgery (and be a good man, but dead because he would have no feelings anymore)
or live as a monster - don't have the surgery

but the fact that he realises that he's insanse makes him sane imo :p
Parent
Maybe, but the fact he DIDN'T realize that, does make him insane.
Parent
With dieing as a good man, he means that he prefers being lobotomized as his fantasy-character over living with the sins and the guilt of the guy he used to be.
Parent
Isnt it obvious :p. Commited something so terrible that couldnt live on knowing it. That was the reason he got insane in the first place.
Parent
He wasn't sane, and it was obvious. There aren't any chances. The fact that the bullet d'caprio shot were fake proves it for good

reply to skooli,im not sure either :D but skooli has made a good point actually...

"Which would be worse, to live as a monster or to die as a good man? "
would an insane man say that?

Now thinking about it, damn that movie was fucking awesome, this and inception rock it this year, gj d'caprio.
Btw, never understood why one of the nurses/ patience wrote to d'caprio while he interrogated her, to run.
+1
the thing with the run could be either because it's part of the story the doctor plays due to his recovery plans or it's the real story thing...dunno
Parent
cause it wasn't real

How was the ending conclusive? I watched it when it came out and I'm pretty sure the movie ended by focusing on the light house. That being said, throughout the movie you are led to believe that everything Di faggotrio experienced was based on his insanity (based on those dreams/visions about his wife and kids) and that he was really there to be threated. Then the movie ends with the light house which was made clear in the middle of the movie that it represents the change of human mind (or something similar, it's been some time since I saw the movie)

With all that bs, you can't really tell if he's sane or not. Which made the movie great for me... even though I had to watch it from the first row :(
what is the movie about

e: saw trailer

looks promising
Overrated movie in my opinion, it was way too predictable right from the beginning. Plus, DiCaprio just couldn't convince me.
