Hello guys. I'm gonna buy a new screen during next days.I've been using a big crt from 1930a.c. Pic: http://i.imgur.com/3weSk.jpg and http://i.imgur.com/GnL6G.jpg !
I kinda got used to play with 100hz (such a huge difference when i try to play with 60hz). Anyway, i've tried to find a 120hz lcd but the full hd ones are very expensive. Found one with decent price, but it is 1680x1050 or something like that.
Since i don't have money to waste at a 120hz one, tell me: do you really notice alot of difference between crt - lcd? what about 5ms vs 2ms ? I wouldn't mind buying one with tv included, but i can only find 5ms with tv. :|
Tell me your experience and if possible suggest me some new LED screens, >= 21.5' && <= 24'!
Thanks!

pci tv card: ~40€
anyway for gaming: crt >> lcd
same here :) pisses me off but I heard it can be solved by resoldering some contacts, too bad the casing of my monitor is like impossible to open :|
or do you mean you MUST play 30 cm from the screen cuz the screen is rly large :O
Well i've got to agree, i guess i would get used to it. I've never been a good aimer soo....
rip ibm you oversized heavy piece of crap
well, he is around sometimes :P here at cf
you should ask wesbo for the photo i guess
2nd there is quite a big difference between lcd and crt but if you really want to buy a lcd monitor I suggest that you check forums/sites such as www.tomshardware.com and see what the guys there say.
p.s. I have an lcd monitor and what I did is reducing the resolution (r_mode 6) and that allowed me to set a higher value of hz (r_displayrefresh 75) which really do improve the gameplay.
60hz is pretty crappy in fast paces shooters and 75hz isn't great either but it's definitely preferable. You need to know the resolution you will play games at will work for you as well as what res you want to watch your movies at. When I used to play on a TFT I used half the native resolution at 75hz.
Getting a CRT would be cheaper and the results would be better, 120hz LCDs are good also but as you said you don't have money to waste. Ensure you buy something that is appropriate for everything you want to use it for.
Anandtech used to be pretty good for all your info like response time, colour reproduction, contrast etc so I suggest you check there.
I would like to have a 120hz screen to play, but i've never been a great aimer, guess it won't make MUCH difference for me... I play with r_mode 6 and 100hz right now, would like to keep it, eventhough its impossible (hz). Everything else is fine for me. Full hd is a must have nowadays!
What you could do is get both a CRT and an LCD and run them simultaneously which is the solution most gamers come to.
For example like you can run et in windowed mode at 1920*1080 no matter than resolution of your monitor.
notice the difference going from 60 > 100, so going the opposite youll notice a skill drop - your tacking will be off :(
:'(
I can get the same here at portugal for almost same price.. would be great a full hd one for this price!
:[
not much of an increase if you can find the one without the glasses could be a bit cheaper too, no idea how good it actually is though :)
1680x1050 isnt that bad though

New image records offscreen, i guess it wouldn't be a problem, but still.. i prefer to record fullscreen during night..
I like the new image but still can't get over the stuff madscientist left out from the old one. Like being able to control RGB on all levels.
I'm playing with HDR at the moment, would be cool if the new version could post process that for you. i.e. set you over-exposed, normal and under-exposed values, and have image post-process all three frames (instead of needing photoshop).
I kinda love HDR nowadays. I had to change (still changing) all my maps config to use hdr :|
Litle example of GR with hdr:

That clip is nice btw, so much better than that bloom crap (no offence to anyone in particular).
seta r_clampToEdge "1"
seta r_wolffog "0"
seta r_overBrightBits "1"
seta r_mapOverBrightBits "1.7"
seta r_intensity "2.42"
seta r_gamma "1"
seta r_ignorehwgamma "1"
seta img_hdr "1"
vid_restart
this is my config for gr. I play mainly with intensity and r_mapoverbrighbits..
