Eh? I do not understand what point you are making. Are you suggesting that the dwindling number of people attending regular church service is reflected by 'more education people get', or are you suggesting that religious belief is related to educational attainment (i.e. more educated people are less likely to believe in God)?
In either case, you are guilty of using an underlying assumption, special pleading and drawing an unsubstantiated conclusion from your example, though I do not suppose you care about logic and the like when you discriminate. Likewise, I would disagree with your suggestion on principle. Literary rates are fairly high (and have been for a while), but the level of education people receive has been deteriorating for the last twenty or thirty years. The logical conclusion of this statement is that atheism is related to low intelligence, which explains the dwindling number of people attending regular mass; there are more atheists around receiving 'superior' education.
Thomm and twister are the only two who made sensible comments.
To be honest, I doubt either of you is right about it. Totally not related to todays (shrinking) intelligence, but todays lifestyle. I believe people just can't be bothered to go to church anymore, or to believe in a higher power. Not wanting to start another pointless discussion of 'how would life be, if we had less immigrants', but I believe that also interferes with the numbers.
Atheism being related to intelligence is in my opinion utter bull* aswell, but I guess you're only teasing hmm? (Or was 'superior' meant in a sarcastic way? - Doesn't make much sense to me else way)
I can't believe you answered him in that pseudo educated way, on this site. This isn't some 1st year mooting session. This is some moron making a semi thought provoking journal for a change. I can't decide who the biggest dick is, seriously.
