Working in your country

Had a discussion in 'phone bill' journal. And I would like to hear and make a list how much money you can earn in your country with an avg job?

To make it clear and dont shake the jobs we need an example like 2e in KFC if you are a seller. So everybody say how much money you can earn in KFC. (flag/KFC/2 euro)

Hungary KFC 2-3E / h
Portugal low 4E / h
Israel avg job 5E / h
Germany avg job 7E / h
Belgium mcdonalds 5-6 E/h
United Kingdom minimum 7 E / h
Netherlands 6-8 E / h

dont have KFC in Finland but can i say for sure that there is no job that pays 2e per hour. average salary is ~2800€/month
make it mcdonalds then . So you say u can earn 2800 euro per month in mcdonalds for waroking 40 hours a week ?
Parent
i have no idea what they make in McDonalds and 2800e is average of all workers
Parent
are you sure its 2800e? it seems fucking huge amount of money a month, or am i missing something? its like 15e+ a hour
Parent
yeah but u have to pay much more for everything so its not that much if u live over there ^^
Parent
its true that if you earn a lot so u pay a lot, but if you earn 2800e you can just spend it on things outside country...so i think there's something wrong, 2800 is fucking huge amounts of money
Parent
well u gotta pay taxes, so actually there isnt that much left after taxes.
Parent
i doubt that a KFC seller makes average salary :D
Parent
normal work is 5 euros a hour
close to no idea what u earn in such a job in germany but i would go for something about ~7-10€ netto
(average industry job is around 15-20€ netto)
got 7,5 euros per hour partime job
lol 2e/h

i used to train lil kids on tennis i was earning 10 euros hour
just compare minimum wage, not that hard.
as long as the country has something like that (which is ie not the case in germany.. or only for some jobs)
Parent
My brother and dad have rather 'simple working class jobs' to say so and bring in around 1500e per month I believe.
9E / h ? (counted with 40 hours week)
Parent
net or brut?
Parent
net.

I think, it's just an estimate, never checked their tax papers :P
Parent
Oh ok. Well I guess it's quite ok. Depends also what kind of job it is and how many working experience they have etc...

How much would that be in brut in NL? I pay around 30% taxes on my starting salary.
Parent
I have no idea, I am but a poor student feeding of your taxes.
Parent
I'm not dutch so I don't care. You can feed as much as you want :)
Parent
Thanks, means a lot to me.
Parent
No KFC her, ill take McDonalds/Quick instead xD

Belgium 7-8 E/h but u only get lik 5-6 E/h cause of the shit taxes, normal job is about 1800/month without taxes, u get like 1400/1500 if taxes ar payed, and yes everyone pays taxes :(
If you get 1800 with taxes, you won't have 1400/1500 left.

It's more like 1800 euro brut = 1250 euro net.
Parent
depends on age i suppose anyway
It doesnt depend on that here. You work you get paid. I dont even get it, you get more or less if you are younger?
Parent
yes , 16 yo gets arround 3-4E a hour , an 18 yo gets arround 6-8 ( at macdonalds )
Parent
young people feel like they are slaves i guess

isnt it 8E/h in nl minumum ?
Parent
nooooo minimum for 15y is like 2.5/around 2.8 for 16 / 3 for 17/ 4.5 18 or smth :D
Parent
wtf why no kfc in your countries fin/be ?
cuz they dont have black people? and if there is no black people a KFC woudlnt be able to sell much?

finland is freaking cold, black people need sun
Parent
guess you never been in finland
Parent
niggers cant survive in flnad they die u retard.
Parent
to less blacks ? :) naa.. its not thaaat common in western europe. i think i have seen like 1 or 2 so far in germany.

i guess we are more up for cow instead of chicken ^^
Parent
nah here we have qute few KFCs cuz we have many black ppl, also ppl born here is half black (sand nigges)
Parent
blacks and moslems is guess ( saw a lot of kfc, other chickenstuff + double chickenburgers atr mc in istanbul) .
Parent
no kfc here either
Parent
hehe, we dont have money but kfc lol
Parent
From October 2010, National Minimum Wage rates will increase from:

* £5.80 to £5.93 an hour for workers aged 21 and over
* £4.83 to £4.92 an hour for workers aged 18 to 20
* £3.57 to £3.64 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17
Why you earn less if you are young ? Cant see the logic
Parent
its also the same here...
Parent
Jeh but why? seriously I want to know #)
Parent
The older you are the longer youve been working and the more experienced you are.. thats what I think

I guess its kinda obvious if you just started working then you wont earn as much as one who is working for years :P

But seriously 2/3 € / hour in hungary? thats fucking little, but I guess things dont cost as much then also?
Parent
Why would cost anything much cheaper? We get food from all over europe for example. We buy iphone from the same place. We pay fro gas to the russians/ arabs etc. So why would anything be cheaper? Unfortunatelly its the same.
Parent
well for example in the ukraine everything is much cheaper, things dont cost as much as far as I know.. and so I thought it might be similar in hungary.. but well if not then thats a fucking small amount of money you get per hour
Parent
everything much cheaper? Maybe the home made foods/traveling but buying a new computer or new cloth is the same. So if you want to live like a western european you have to pay the same
Parent
I doubt you'll find trousers costing over 100 euro in Hungary ^^ + property here in Belgium is on average 200k, I really doubt it is as much in Hungary ^^ same for food
Parent
Are you kidding me ? Come to Budapest and walk on Andrassy road. Thats where I live.
Gucci/Armani/louis vuitton stores next to each other.

You get everything here, but not cheaper its the same as in west. But you cant waste money on that. Without my parents help i would be like a homeless, just kidding:p
Parent
Yea but those are expensive known brands. Those are only in the expensive part of the capital for the rich (in relatively poorer countries). I mean an average trouser cost easily 100 euro here. I doubt an average trouser from an average store cost as much in Hungary.
Parent
What are ou talking about? You can buy trousers cheap everywhere in the world.

Just been in England and every store tried to sell everything cheap..
Parent
I didnt make the experience on my own but I know a guy ( around 40 years old ) whos building some own house in the ukraine and he has been there a lot of times already and he said that everything is a lot cheaper there, what actually falls under "everything" ... no idea but a lot I guess

and yes about things like iPhone and newest technical media stuff I also doubt its cheaper
Parent
its not about where u get this stuff from.. u will always pay more for things like cars in germany then in like eastern euro countrys just cause germans are willed and able to pay more.

i guess even thoug u get ur stuff from the same supplier u have to pay different prieces in different country.

i mean look at scandinavia.. they have mostly the same stuff like we germans but have to pay more for it :)
Parent
What? Hungarian ppl actually buying cars from germany because our taxes are huge.
Parent
jepp if u buy a car which is from germany in let me say poland.. its cheaper then when u would actually buy it in germany :P same car, same stuff.. just more expansiv in germany
Parent
Stolen cars doesnt count.

Oh well I just wanted to try this joke #)
Parent
In low-payed jobs you dont need real experience so its just a made-up excuse to pay less (usually)
Parent
Yes true in jobs like McDonalds you dont really need any experience and I actually also doubt that the €/h differs much there but thats just the way it is and as you said, often its just an excuse to pay less
Parent
Because they can mainly - you could justify it by [generally] younger people having lesser outgoings (i.e most live at home no bills etc) & being unskilled - but mainly it seems a compromise to appease business & exploit and discriminate against young people.

Just to expand a little on wages generally - Britain is fairly unique in Europe in having a large pay differential between different regions known as the north / south divide [difference of about £90 p/w gross (105 euro)) (afaik the only real comparison would be east / west Germany though I understand that's changing). The average wage in the UK as a whole is around £24.5k.

Though the fact I find most interesting is that the UK government defines £7.50 p/h (approx £15,500) as the 'living wage' - you'll notice the huge difference between the living wage & the minimum wage!

An increasing problem imo in the UK labour market is the use of temporary / agency workers - of which there's a large proportion of younger people working. It gives the employee very little job security & removes their rights to things such as company pensions, promotions, incrimental pay increases, unions etc. In areas such as the north where companies are increasingly recruiting like this people are left with very little real options.

Jobs like McDonalds / KFC etc do usually pay around the minum wage but your average unskilled manual labour job will pay around £7 p/h (just over 8 euro) - for this we're talking warehouse / call centre / labourer / delivery driver etc whereas the average semi-skilled job is around double that.
Parent
Would be nice to deal with problems like you have there :(
Parent
Nellie, I want to show you a video that I made a week ago.
It was done in approx 1 day so count it as a normal 8 hours day (in normal tempo its ok).
What do you think how much does it worth in your country ?
I just need a prediction.

British Youth Council campaign document...

QuoteWhat is the situation now for young people?

In 1998 the UK Government made the National Minimum Wage law in order to make sure that employees in the UK are provided with “decent minimum standards and fairness in the workplace”. The National Minimum Wage is the minimum hourly rates of pay that employers can offer across the UK, so it is the lowest amount you can legally be paid.

At the moment there is a three-tiered system that means that workers get paid a different rate of the National Minimum Wage depending on your age.

The three rates of the National Minimum Wage (from 1 October 2009 to the present) are:

£5.80 per hour for workers aged 22 years and older. This rate is called the
adult rate.
£4.83 per hour for workers aged 18 to 21 years. This rate is called the youth
development rate.
·£3.57 per hour for all workers aged 16 to 18, who no longer have to be at
school. This rate is called the youth rate.

Almost everyone working legally in the UK is entitled to the National Minimum Wage.
However, at the moment apprentices age under the age of 19, and those over 19 in their first year, are not entitled to the National Minimum Wage. If they are ‘employed’ Apprentices (their employer is registered with the Learning and Skills Commission) they receive a lump sum of £95 a week.

The National Minimum Wage rates are set by the UK Government. However, there is an independent public body, the Low Pay Commission (LPC), which advises the Government every year on what the rates should be. The LPC use surveys, data, research projects and many other forms of evidence from a variety of sources to make recommendations on wage rates to Government. The LPC has to research how changing the rates will affect people’s pay and their jobs.

After looking at the LPC’s yearly report the Government then makes an announcement about the rates of the National Minimum Wage. In 2009 the Government made a commitment to ensuring 21 year olds receive the adult rate of National Minimum Wage from October 2010. It also asked the LPC to look into developing an Apprentice National Minimum Wage.

Why is equal pay for equal work important to young people?

The current Minimum Wage discriminates on age.

The three-tiered system means young workers on the National Minimum Wage get paid a lot less than older workers for doing the same job. 16 and 17 year olds on the Minimum Wage earn 38% less than those aged over 22 who are paid the Minimum Wage. This means workers paid the adult rate of the Minimum Wage earn £312.20 more for a month’s work than colleagues aged 16 to 17 doing the same job. BYC believes it is discriminatory to pay someone less for the same job because of their age. The National Minimum Wage is the lowest amount someone can be paid so it should be equally applied to workers, whatever their age.

Young people rely on Minimum Wage jobs to get by.

Young people aren’t just working in Minimum Wage jobs for pocket money. Over 60% of 16 to 21 year olds work in low paying jobs compared with just 30% of those over 22. Many of these young people still have the same living costs as adults such as rent, bills, food and transport. Research by BYC ‘Weathering the Recession’ (January 2009) found that half of young people said bill payments have become more of an issue for either themselves or their parents/carers/guardians. A lot of students use Minimum Wage jobs to support themselves whilst studying at college or university. Almost half (46%) of working students rely on paid work to fund their basic living expenses (National Union of Students, 2008). Often due to low pay students have to work longer hours, which has a negative impact on their academic study.

Young people deserve work and fair pay.

A common justification for the three-tiered system of the Minimum Wage is that paying young people less gives them a greater chance getting hired. Although research has found that the impact of removing the youth rates might be minimal (Unite research in Low Pay Commission Report 2009), it can also be argued that it is not fair to pay a group in our society less to ensure their employment. Instead of protecting young people, tiered pay brackets actually lead to young people being seen as cheap labour.

In particular, with the exemption of young Apprentices from the Minimum Wage, it has been demonstrated how low pay also has the potential to decrease the quality of work-based training experiences for young people and become a strong factor within a decision not to complete training. It is often not disillusionment with their Apprenticeships in particular, or training in general, that causes young people to leave their placements. Instead the reason can often be better pay or prospects outside the Apprenticeship (Apprenticeship Taskforce, 2005).

What needs to happen?

BYC believes all prospective parliamentary candidates (PPCs), people running for election in the General Election 2010, need to commit to lobbying for the removal of the three-tiered system based on age and creating an equal National Minimum Wage for everyone aged over 16, once they are elected. Apprentices should also be made included in the National Minimum Wage framework.
Parent
would you want to pay anything for a random youngster coming to work for you firm? or would you instead prefer random grown-up?
Parent
Ye true. But still it's unfair to the youngster.

Same job done should be the same price, but well world is evil :)
Parent
but in the most cases the young people cant do quite the same job as adults :p
Parent
Thats an other case #)
Parent
I disagree. Experience should be rewarded, so they get higher wages. As soon as the youngsters have experience in the company, their wages also start to rise :-)
Parent
They are already rewarded -> they can find jobs easier.

Isnt it a big reward?
Parent
Not necessairly. Many 45+ can't find a job easily, despite their huge experience bonusses.
Parent
You just proved my point ?
Parent
Read it again if you think I proved your point.
Parent
They would get jobs easier without this age-based system, No?
Parent
'* £3.57 to £3.64 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17 '

I was earning 6.80/h at my job :D
Parent
You were a boytoy for elder men, it's different.
Parent
;D actually i was a pedophile, different still.

*seriously tho i did work around younger kids* ":D"
Parent
That's just national minimum wage, so you'd get that regardless where you work if they state it :{

I was earning £100 a day when I was 17, but that's a completely diff job from your average one that they're asking for on here :-)))
Parent
Rent Boy pays well , especially a 17yr old .

Parent
Usually you would use a ''basket'' of products to calculate the PPP. Wages are relative because in low wage countries the cost of living is also a lot lower and vice versa.
Parent
Why every western country ppl think that everything much cheaper ? NO ITS NOT. Come to hungary and check out yourself.
Parent
Cmon, average wage after taxes is like how much in hungary? 400 euro? If prices would be the same how on earth would anyone be able to rent an appartment in Hungary? For 400 euro you won't find anything here..

http://www.filolog.com/costofliving.html
And are the prices on this site representative? beer is 0,8€, here it's 2€ in a bar or more; cinema ticket is around 10 euro here, in hungary 5 euro, etc...

Ok, I know our purchasing power is a lot higher then hungary but I don't think prices are at the same level as here.
Parent
Ok lets see

Yes avg wage is 400 yes.
Beer in a bar is 2E here not 0.8 lol.
Cinema ticket is 6E (yes u payed 40% less here and still you earn 400% in ur country so)
rent an appartment is maybe cheaper: 200E / month (so basiclly u cant do this because u dont have money for that LOL)

The most important is: You cant save money in Hungary if you are working in an avg job and renting house Unlike in normal countries.
Parent
well that's pretty shit
Parent
200€ for an appartment is pretty cheap, no idea what you're complaining about. 500€ minimum in most Flemish cities.
Parent
Well it can be cheap because this is a forced value. I mean It cant be more expensive because then nobody could rent a house.

So ye this is one of the few things that is cheaper. But as I read some ppl dont understant the RATIOs here. Even if something is double expensive in western eu you have to work 4 times more for the same. So basicly if everythng would be ONLY twice expensive still you would be twice bad situation.
Parent
Is 400€ REALLY the average wage in Budapest?
Parent
Not the avarage because there are good jobs also. This is some kind of minimum and most of the ppl happy with 400E.
example: Police officers get more like 600-700E But I heard in west eu its much more.
Parent
In Belgium it's something between 1300-1500 € (after taxes) for a starter, I think.
Parent
already went to Budapest and its rly cheaper ;) smth like 10-30% cheaper (depends on the stuff u buy)
Parent
so what? :D you buy something 10-30% cheaper but then u have 4 times!! less salary
Parent
work in finland and live in Hungary is the best way :D
Parent
work 2 years in switzerland, live the rest of your life in southafrika :D
Parent
na dubai is the best place to earn money izily ^^
Parent
about 9.2e @ mcdonalds
ai vitun yölisien kaa? :D vissii lähempän 7-8 eskoo jos jotain tessiä lukee
Parent
katoin vaan mäkkärin sivuilt ja siel luki tälleen: "McDonald's maksaa majoitus- ja ravitsemisalan työehtosopimuksen mukaista palkkaa. Ravintolatyöntekijän peruspalkka ilman kokemusvuosilisiä on tällä hetkellä ravintolan sijainnista riippuen 9,28 tai 9,18 euroa tunnilta"

en kyl tunne täällä varmaa yhtää mäkkärijannua ku tienais noi "paljo" ellei tee jotain ilta/yönakkii :E suht kiero firma kyl.. varmaa 70% duunareist nii pihal elämästä et tekee just sil palkal mitä ekan niil tarjotaa.. kuka nyt muuten mäkkii menis töihi ellei pakosta ja sit ne ei tiedä mittää muutaku lukion kurssinsa :x
Parent
uk minimum wage for any job if you are over 16 (or 18) is £5.93 - so probably that for places like KFC / McDonalds etc.

aha seems it's 21+ panda has it on lock down
3€/h at mcdonalds in Portugal
So I guess people are mad in portugal too.
Parent
yes they are very very mad. Minimum wage is around 450€ >.<
Parent
jeah its something like this here too
Parent
rofl, 3rd world country wtf.
Parent
you need to decide. either the average income or what you earn at a fastfood company
In Poland, im guessing the wage u get, is negative...So u have to pay for the company to work there. There is no profit in it,but hey, its Poland. End of discussion
i get 8€/h @ 50h a moth = 400€ which is the maximum limit to earn in germany if you dont want to pay taxes (legally of course^^).
you dont have to pay tax in that case? LOL
Parent
well i dont know if you get what i mean. if you got a job on "400€ base" you dont have to pay taxes for the money you earn. as long as your monthly salary stays below 400€. if you earn more than 400 you got to pay taxes on that money. so nearly every student works for like 400€ because its pretty useless to earn like 500-600 € if you got to pay taxes on that money. of course you got to pay the normal taxes :D you just dont have to give away any of your earned money as long as its below the 400€ limit.
Parent
your first comment was pretty clear I understood. Just funny, you can dodge paying tax if you earn 400E
Parent
ye i thought you thought i meant every taxes in generall :DD

ye thats the way it is in germany. but what might be interesting to know and should be added: you can only have one such job. your earnings would be added if you got another one of those 400€ jobs and you'd have to pay taxes on the complete income. pretty logic though.
Parent
jeh obviously :D

Would like to see how many "black" workers in germany. "jeh I earn only 400E"
Parent
actually here in the US, if your salary is low enough you get your taxes refunded as well, its quite nice for poor ass students :D
Parent
10euro/hour and don't have to pay taxes for my student job :'( (@Carrefour)
15€/hour for giving tennislesso
s :D best vacation job ever.
Minimum wage is around 600 euros per month here
our countries suck, deal with it
Canada 10 $/h (about 6 e/h)

Slovenia 4-5 e/h if you work at mcdonalds I think
Poland 1.5-2e / h ?

this country sucks...
but we got nice food, girls and vodka...
Parent
Geez man... :(
Parent
sad but true
Parent
McD and Burger King pay in Germany between 8-9 Euros. But it is depending in which part of Germany you live....
6-8 e/h

mcdonalds obviously less money...
200 - 300 EURO / month
Romania ? jeh same shit there as i see. it 300-400 for low salary here.. :/
Parent
idk the Earthquake just detroyed all the KFC's over here
I make $8.50/hr at a regular job here in the US
~10e/h? wouldnt be happy with that though. on a good job 30-40e/h. 1000e taxfree, 1000e->12000e liek 12% goes to taxes, +12000e 30% or so. and those are per year.
i worked on some shit jobs when i was younger, got 2e/h when deliviring freebies. but that's kind of job nobody wants to do or should do. 8e/h is minimum when working on a real job.
Parent
I'm working in the warehouse of Nike and I earn ~100 € a day, working 8 hours.
whats ur education ?
Parent
Degree of secundary school, that's it.
Parent
Wow and that enough for such a job ?:o
Parent
All I do is scan boxes and put them on an assembly line. Everyone can do that (well, males, cos the boxes can be pretty heavy and women suck at lifting heavy stuff 8 hours in a row)...

1300 €/h is my expected net monthwage and that's pretty low (it's the minimum wage for people with a temporary contract) for Belgian standards. I'm happy with it though, don't really need much more.
Parent
"I'm happy with it though, don't really need much more. "

Exactly, I would be so happy with that :|
Parent
McDonalds in Germany pays 7,5 € I believe. But there are other jobs that pay way worse ;p I once worked in a Callcenter where I got 6 € before taxes. ^^
minimum wage here is $10.25 an hour
