i dont know if i should get x4 965be or x6 1055t...1055t is "only" 35€ more, but its worse for gaming isnt it?
But on stock the 965 wins in most games. And my 1055T is bad. Most can do 4GHz with a lot less voltage. Also more games will get multithreaded. And the IMC ( internal memory controller ) is much better in the X6.
because this would be the advantage of the 965...because i dont wanna overclock my mainboard/ram/northbridge/gpu..
btw what is the standart cpu voltage?
Also northbridge is in the CPU nowdays so that doesnt matter anyway. Your chipset wont get that hot anymore this way.
multiplier is 14 and turbo multiplier is 16.5. And you need to overclock HTref ( some ppl still call it fsb bus ) to reach more speed. For example 14x250 = 3,5GHz and than you disable turbo Cnq. Yes you have dividers ofcourse, also on stock. You can also overclock the CPU-NB ( default is 2000, i have mine on 2700 ). That will also give some more speed, but thats harder to overclock. If you just want 3,5GHz with 250 HTref. I would first let the voltage on auto, set the HT link divider and the CPU-NB divider as close to 2000MHz ( since thats default speed, never get HT link higher than CPU-NB also) And set the memory divider to the right speed of your memory and also adjust timings properly. Than look with CPU-Z what the auto setting gives for voltage, if its more than 1.4. I would try to find your voltage manual since that will save some power. AMD CPU's like tight timings with RAM so for example 1333 with cl6 can be faster than 1600 with cl9. Testing your overclock is the best with 20 runs with linx on mem all. And than run prime95 3 hours on blend to test cpu-nb/cpu/memory together. Than you can be pretty sure its really stable. In total it takes about 4hours, with prime95 you can just surf and play some panzer on public.
So for an easy overclock its not that hard, and if you adjust dividers good you wont overclock anything else. But if you really want to find the highest speed it can take a while. I reached 4GHz after a week testing. After 3,2 i tested every 150MHz for 4 hours to find the problem.
Also use google and look at xtremesystems.org to get more wise in this area.
but i got another few questions:
1.how far did you get without raising the core voltage?i dont really like raising vcore that much since it can reduce the lifetime of the cpu which i dont like :D
2.does turbo core work when overclocked? are there any problems with it? (i read that when you raise the vcore and activate turbo core, then the turbocore also raises the vcore again and you end up with really high vcore?)
3.does cool&quiet work while overclocked?
4.is the ram mhz connected with the htref(core speed)? because i remember i could only take few core speeds with the old athlon64 because if you raised the fsb,the ram automatically raised to,but i didnt want to overclock it,but also didnt want to underclock it :p
5.what cpu cooler do you have? is it a rather cool or hot cpu (im planning to stay on the boxed for now)?
6.can you disable 2 out of the 6 cores to get higher mhz for the other 4cores more easy without raising the vcore?
thanks so far :) you can fully convince me now :p
2. It does, but it depends. For example if you go for 3,5GHz the multiplier is 14. Normally the turbo mulitplier is 16.5 thats too much, but on most boards you can get lower turbo multipler. So if you set your turbo multiplier tot 14.5 for example you have 125MHz jump when using less cores. I wouldnt do more.
3. Maybe it will work, with really high overclocks it can be unstable but it can work with 3,5GHz.
Also there are programs where you can set cnq manual when disabling it in bios like phenommrstweakers or smth.
4. Yes but on most good boards there are many dividers. Since 250HTref is pretty high speed i think you can run a good divider. With my motherboard i can have 1333 while using 250 HTref. So you should be fine.
5. Custom watercooling, Waterblock ET Supreme LT. But i would take something like Scythe Mugen 2, not Corsair H50 to reach 4GHz or lower.
6. No, but you can set the multiplier lower for some cores that are failing in testing everytime with some programs in windows like asus turbov
7. Overclock in bios and take your time.
