Hello my dear finnish people,

Coming to Finland this weekend. Anything particular to see, visit or go to some other cities? How to reach Helsinki the cheapest way? Why hostels are so damn expensive?

Visit taz0r, you won't regret it , hehehe
Tazor is playing computer whole weekend so he will not be outside (going to clubs or something)
Parent
Jealous.
everything is expensive @ finland

Taxi tampere-helsinki 500€ (wild guess)

train ~40€
buss ~30-40€
uhh.. is it a go-and-back price?
Parent
Turku = great place. Culturetown 2011
i see what you did there
Parent
nothing to see here
if you come from Latvia, you should surely go somehow through Est and come with ship over the baltic sea (eg. www.tallink.com) they also provide hotels etc, but they are expensive like u said. Dunno much about hostels
Probably it's best to move with train if u want to go between the cities.
And it's kinda cold here already, so take warm clothes :D
no clue about hostels. never seen one in finland (never really needed), but hotels are expensive mostly at least in helsinki. it's just that there's nothing cheap here. it's kinda plus that public transport really works pretty fine, but it also has it's price.
Around 30€ per direction tre-hel with train, busses are the same.

If you get a cheap travel to Estonia Tallinn you can take a ferry from there, lowest prices start from ~20€.

Check www.ryanair.com for plane prices to Tampere, ridiculously cheap. Did it for you, friday-sunday, there and back, Total 86.27 LVL

EDIT: Tampere hostel http://dreamhostel.fi/en/rooms-rates/ (if you are not afraid of shared room, though it isn't any season now so there won't prolly even be anyone.

Helsinki, just google, don't know any better, http://www.hostels.com/helsinki/finland

EDIT2: And basically there isn't anything special to see, at least not in fall.

Gigs Helsinki: http://meteli.net/tapahtumahaku?a=pe-su&l=70 (Metalheim)

Gigs Tampere: http://meteli.net/tapahtumahaku?a=pe-su&l=400 (nothing)
fucking crossfire, have to type it all again..
anyway thank you for such an extensive information! We had Riga-Tampere-Riga ryanair tickets already, so it was actually the main reason to plan a trip.:) So here is what I came up with:
1) we arrive in Tampere in the evening and go to the center - 6EUR
2) spend a night in a dreamhostel - 22.50EUR
3) next morning go to Helsinki - 30EUR (possibly with 15% discount since we are 3, but student discount of 50% works only for finnish students)
4) in the late evening we take a ferry to Tallinn - 23EUR
5) when we arrive we spend a night in the hostel - 9EUR
6) next day at midnight we take a bus to Riga - 10EUR, voila

All in all 100 euros to see 3 cities (without food expenses and stuff) is pretty a good value I think:)

Good value indeed.

When we stayed at Tallinn, we were at http://hostel.alur.ee/ decent hostel in the middle of Old Town, good cooking are etc. Was 12€ per night, though it was summer season then.
Parent
I reckon you should sleep @ omenahotelli since theres one in centrum of helsinki, turku and tampere and they are quite cheap and nice places all in all. http://www.omenahotels.com/fi/

Might wanna take a sightseeing tram @ helsinki (if its still running this late in fall)
also in jyväskylä

Through Eesti.
I think Viking Line was cheaper then Tallink , atleast last time I went to .fi

http://www.vikingline.ee/
by 2 euros cheaper, but it's good there is always an alternative!
Parent
And also there's this
http://www.lindaline.fi/ee/

smaller ship, faster?, cheaper. You get a 20% discount if you buy a ticket back to eesti as well.

Just one thing that it doesnt go off with a very stormy weather like we had here a few days ago .

Tampere commune = taz & kapaa
Why are you coming to my hoods btw? :)
Nothing to see. Dont come
Remember to beware polar bears. One ate my grandpa.
Come to FinlandKemi. You wont be dissapointed.
visited helsinki two weeks ago, very nice city worth to be visited :)

from tampere airport to tampere railway station with the bus (ticket about 6 € )
from there you reach Helsinki with the train in about 90 mins (ticket for the train about 30€ )

as Statti said you should sleep at Omenahotel. We also stayed there (address Yrjönkatu 30, in centrum 5 mins from the railway station) and just paid 117€ for 4 days (3 people).

hf :)
good price indeed, thanks for infos!
