the upper lip is usually darker, the background is a bit amateurish, otherwise i like the composition

Don't know much about flash. Just heard thats good for animating drawings. You can tell whats your experience with that in short, if u got few minutes :)

well i practically know as much as you with flash & illustrator, as i learned it at school from this year. I got more skills in photoshop, but i mostly use it to make signatures & banners 'n stuff

and yes, flash is supposed to make animation, but we learned how to draw with it, and that's what I made during class :P

maybe try adding to the original photo, which I guess you used as a base for this drawing, a filter in photoshop(dunno which one but I often use posterize which isn't rly a filter) so you can distinguish the darks from the lights which will help you in making a more detailed picture. :P

I did these kinds of illustrations too.
But seeing as the human eye only sees contrasts between two colors, it is really hard to seperate it into planes with different tints.

I did it with an unedited pic aswell though.. but it was in black and white, which already helped me a lot.

Just opened PS Cs5 and got a nice filter there. Makes it even easier now!

yeah nice, once you start using gradient mesh more you'll get even better results. As long as you have a strong base image (strong lines, contrast etc) you can make anything look good p:

I tried it a couple if years ago and i found it quite difficult.

anyway, it looks truely great! however, take a closer look at the shading. good shading can highlight certain details. moreover, the shading should be logical. often many (such did I) shade in the not fully correct direction or leave it out at certain areas (or shade too much) because they feel that it would look nice there but keep it 100% realistic.
