being aware of the fact that YOU ARE really dreaming does actually help.

i once made it, but the excitement that i finally did it only gave me a short lucid dream...
it was some scene of dr. house mixed with a strange funhouse, when the female doctor or someone else wanted to get something ouf of a cupboard, i saw my chance and thought "wow, i am dreaming" and i said that in my dream too.

at this point, everything melted away and my short lucid dream catapulted me back to 10th grade in school, i was sitting in the last row, it was a sunny day outside and i was just looking to the blackboard to the teacher's table where someone of my old teachers was, then i got excited just like i said before, and this excitement made me wake up of the dream.
i got straight up in my bed and thought: "wow...just wow."

its really worth a try :)
