Bullet lag :(

Hi there folks!
I have a problem with ET and I thought the best place to ask is xfire- a community full of friendly and kind-hearted people.
The problem is that although I have quite good connection (stable 48 ping) and stable amount of fps (76) I suffer from bullet lag. When I shoot there is a delay between firing a bullet and actually hitting anything (a gasp of smoke and a hitsound are delayed). This also happens when I fire at a wall- mark on it is delayed. It almost feels like 150-200 ping.
Now, what is strange, is that sometimes when I play everything is fine. I've been having this issue for about a year... From what I can see the delay is getting worse the longer I play (not always). I tried to record it on a demo but it doesn't capture the delay between firing and hitting... My specs:
*Pentium 4 2.80GHz
*Radeon 9600pro
*1 gb ram
*dsl 2 Mb/s
Nothing is overclocked. Also the temperatures seem to be ok. I don't use any router, everything is wired, no firewall. My pc is free of viruses, worms and other shit. There are only 19 processes running in the background. All drivers installed (tried many). Also I tried to run ET on windows xp, 2000 and Ubuntu- no effect. I can already say these elements aren't source of the problem, cause I changed them some time ago:
*gfx card
*hdd
*ram
*processor
If anyone has got any idea what could be wrong please post.
PS. Waiting for 'format' and 'care' comments. Don't dissapoint my faith in xfire community :)

btw maybe a program running in the background, adware oid
yeah, this problem has existed for me since etpro 3.2.6 was introduced to GA... definitely feels like its 250 ping or higher for me, yet my ping says its a stable 50 or so. I get stuck so easily on servers
I have thought it was my computer, internet, config, everything else (even my keyboard - i was desperate for a solution), but i'm pretty sure its just et thats having the fit.
things i have tried:
reformat, different configs (including no autoexec.cfg), reinstalls, different isps, different routers, different mice (diamondback and copperhead) different mouse drivers (even no drivers!) different video drivers and everything under the sun - all to no avail.
Specs: amd64 4000+
1Gig corsair XXL ram
2x6800 ultras in sli
k8n sli platinum mobo
160gig seagate HDD
samsung 930bf monitor (running at 75Hz - not the 60Hz standard)
adsl 1500down /256up (*editted - i had 128 in there :F -* no adsl 2 where i am :( ) - even switched isps and routers and various settings with duplex etc etc
I rarely have any playtime where it behaves itself two matches and two scrims in about a year).
my net graph shows a fairly stable (occasional blip) little green line down the bottom and nice regular blue triangles at the top.
adaware, zonealarm and ms malicious software removal all say my machine is clean...
I'll post up my config later tonight when i get back from work, so anyone that is interested can have a look at it (maybe there's something screwy in there)
Ive even tried r_finish 0 and 1, in_mouse -1 and 1 (doesnt work in ET apparently but i tried it anyway), maxpackets 30 - 100, rates 15000-25000, absolutely everything I can think of.
Ive tried the copperhead at 1600, 2000DPI, 1000MHz - 125MHz and 500Mhz...
I am at a loss. The bani forum htread doesnt really help :/
(given this is an old thread - im really hoping gottie has solved it and has a solution already :) )
(*edit* - wtf posted in the middle - im obviously a forum noob :P)
