Qatar and Russia!

wtf have they ever done for football :(

England the home of football , or the mighty spain&portugal nah lets take Mother Russia!

U.S.A an upcoming football nation, the world cup would surely secure the stability of growth of the game in U.S.A, same can be said for Japan and Austrailia. Nah lets take Qatar, they love football:|

MONIES
Qatar = $$
Russia = $$

Fifa wants $$
"the home of football" isn't such a strong point
neither is mafia
Parent
but terrorist threats are!
Parent
Forever not home :(

( The premier league one of the most famous and recognised leagues in the world, doing so much work for charity and promoting the game, its a small country and with the introduction of high speed railways, travelling to each destination would be no problem. England has high quality stadiums and have the best infrastructure for football.) better?
Parent
"work for charity" I hope you mean work for the football charities? Not really sure how this is relevant because I'm pretty sure that you could feed those in disgusting conditions in LEDCs with probably 50% of the footballers wages in the premier league. That, in my view, is the worst thing of all, and why I lost interest in football.
Parent
Nowadaysit's a disadvantage having the best bid. Fifa chooses countries where stadiums, infrastructure, football league, etc... where a lot of investment is needed + has a lot of potential. England doesn't have that + it already organised a WC already.

And to be honest, saying England is 'home' to football is quite arrogant. It's kinda denigrating to say 'we deserve it'. You don't deserve anything. You already had a WC, the others except for Spain never had it. And who cares where a sport is invented? No one uses this argument about gulf or cycling or basketball or whatever.
Parent
because most of them where invented in uk :O
Parent
Qatar a country which has never qualified for a World Cup finals before will now have hosted as many World Cups as England.

It'll be at least 67 years between should England be succesful in 2030 - that's basically a lifetime. An article on the beeb had it right - it's almost as if FIFA want to keep England in the back pocket as cover in case these 'developing' nations don't pull it off.
Parent
I don't think they use England as cover. What's the chance any country wont be able to host it? Even South Africa pulled it off. Qatar & Russia have loads of money to spend. Trust me, the last thing they will do is give up. Prestige is very important in Qatar & Russia.
Parent
Fucking Guitar?

See what money buys!!!
Qatar was really a shit choice, but Russia is pretty good.
lol goot arguments
FIFA i am dissapointed
Does it really matter where its hosted I bet almost everyone here will just sit and watch it on tv (cept maybe Russians :D:D:D)
that's because it's in russia, and nobody wants to go there
Parent
no matter where it was 3/4 of the people here would just stay at home and watch it
Parent
3/4 ? make it 99/100
Parent
Mighty poor Spain&Portugal, close to financial destruction you mean? Thank god they didn't get it or we EU-members would have to pay millions to get them out of trouble.

Russia is good for a number of reasons:

1) Secure the stability of growth of the game in ALL OFF Russia. Outside of Moscow football is not THAT popular and the WC could give it a serious boost.
2) Improving football-related infrastructure with a dozen new stadiums.
3) Improving the standard of life with massive improvements in roads, airports, etc.
4) Financial security. You just KNOW organising the WC will not bankrupt them like it will Spain & Portugal.

Edit: and just like Mizzi said, what the fuck do you care anyway? You'll all sit behind your tv at home anyway.
Excluding the growth points, what does England lack?
Parent
That's the problem, England already HAS everything. One of the biggest points of FIFA is to make football big in every country and that works better in countries where football is not the main sport, or is not so popular and hasn't got the best infrastructure yet.
Parent
It just seems like Russia didnt care, we put so much money and effort into our bid, yet Russia get it. :(
Parent
its been proven that FIFA executives were offerd and recieved bribes to change their vote in the WC today.

They wont admit who they were voting for originaly or who they changed their vote to.

Also Qatar is an Arab country and one of the most oil rich countries in the world after Iran and Saudi Arabia. Qatar is Irans closest ally which is developing nuclear power and is very rich in oil itself.

1. Pay FIFA officials to vote for an oil rich country.
2. get friendly with oil rich countries by giving them $billions to build a national rail network and improve all modes of transport for the WC.
3. Be the ones who get more of the oil in the future
4. Profit

Say what you want but trust me on this. In the future when oil starts running out you can bet your ass youl be hearing alot more about how US and UK are becoming more and more friendly with Qatar,Saudi Arabia and Iran. Saudia Arabia hosting the world cup in 2030 tbh.

I said to my dad that an oil rich country will get to host a world cup as a result of this bid. SUCCESS
Parent
Proven by whom? You mind sharing your source?
Parent
agreed on this part when it comes 2018, but 2022? USA is a lot bigger and as stated before a growing market for football, even more reason to give them 2022 over Quatar...that was definately a money decision.
Parent
QuoteMighty poor Spain&Portugal, close to financial destruction you mean? Thank god they didn't get it or we EU-members would have to pay millions to get them out of trouble.

Wouldnt such an event give their economy a huge impulse?
Parent
You are forgetting the exorbitant costs it would take to build and renovate all the stadiums. It's not one they can afford at the moment.
Parent
spain and portugal already have stadiums ...
Parent
Can you please READ the bid book from your own country next time? Only 5-7 stadiums from 21 will not be built or renovated, all the others will be built or massively renovated. Projected costs (always underestimated numbers) were hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars.
Parent
Let's hope russians will do something good.
Parent
The amount of money they'd have to put in would put them past their breaking point and the profits won't be enough to put them back
Parent
3) Improving the standard of life with massive improvements in roads, airports, etc.

They WILL have to work on that, I'm expecting to see exhausted teams after travelling halfway through Russia between games.
Parent
Ive been in poland this summer and they are building many new roads. I couldnt really believe my eyes. Now imagine what will happen in russia after this!
Parent
True, but not all of them will be done until Euro 2012 :(
Parent
Read the bidbook next time. Russia has put it's hostcities in clusters of cities which are relatively close to each other. For the groupgames most teams would have to fly 2-3 hours max. Considering you play only 1 game/5 days, it's not a big problem.
Parent
It is for the press.
Parent
Poor press, getting paid to watch football matches and fly an hour every day with the airplane :<
Parent
I can't help but notice your affection to Russia in this WC election. You like to be "different" than the crowd don't ya? All international papers say the same that FIFA chose for the money and that that's a shame, but you wanna be "special" and support Russia.

Fyi, football should never be about politics or economics. This decision was purely because of that. Yet you keep supporting them just to feel better than the other people on CF.
Parent
No, I keep supporting for Russia because I was supporting for them in the first place. I have been fascinated by Russia ever since I was a little child and I have so often dreamed about visiting the country. I never did it because it's quite expensive and difficult, with the stupid visa-shit and having proof of staying at hotels beforehand. With this tournament that will not be necessairy, so, finally one of my dreams can come true.

Yes, there are a lot of things wrong in Russia. But they should be given the opportunity to prove themselves. And if there is one thing you can be sure of, is that everything will be working in time for 2018.

Also, there are a lot of misconceptions here and on other websites concerning Russia's bid. I'm merely rectifying those mistakes, sorry for helping truth prevail over lies.
Parent
Lies? Please :D

Tell me, how will the Russian inhabitants benefit from this? Shouldn't the Russian government "prove themselves" by making the poor-rich gap smaller?

Your fascination is weird to say the least.
Parent
You obviously didn't read the reactions on voetbalkrant.com, the equivalent of HLN in terms of it's members. The amount of lies that was told there was staggering ("wtf, 1 day playing in Moscow other day playing in Vladivostok.", "Russia is too far away, poor peopl can't afford tickets", "visa will keep everyone out", etc.). On this site too there were a lot of misconceptions, just read the replies.

And this event will improve roads, rail network, airports. If you look at the state of them now, that will be a massive improvement in life for those who use it ;-p

Gap between rich and poor is enlarging everywhere, even in Belgium and England. Don't see how it matters.

Edit: How is it strange btw? I bet everybody has some country he likes for some reason. In my case it's Russia. The history, the culture, the landscape, I love it all.
Parent
Russia just doesn't seem very attractive, at least to most people. Its history is one of dictatorship and that's still the case right now. I would never even think of taking that country as my favourite. I like Italy for example!
Parent
Italy, country of fascists and corruption.

See, we're not so different after all :-)
Parent
getting a visa is extremely easiy these days, just got mine for indonesia. just send the needed documents, wait 2 weeks and there is ur visa :P
Parent
travelling to Russia is slightly more complicated ;-p

You also need proofs that you are staying in a hotel every night you're in Russia.
Parent
I don't see what so complicated in that, just book ur hotel before you leave. Or you could ask some russian (et player) you know to send you an invitation letter to come and visit him ;)

And for indonesia I also needed to send my flight ticket or my hotel booking, I just send them the flight ticket because I'm not going to stay in a hotel ^^
Parent
Sending stuff is complicated man!

If you're gonna stay at 1 place it's not that difficult, but when I go to Russia I wanna go through many cities (big & small) and who's to say they have internet in Siberia? :o
Parent
than make a booking in a hotel that doesn't ask for a payment before you arrive, use that for ur visa and then have fun ^^
Nobody is going to check if you actually stay in the hotel you booked :P

And well here we have several sites/companies that help you getting the visa, I used the service ANWB offers, I can just bring my stuff to the local ANWB office and they take care of the rest. (for just 10 euro extra) Think in belgium you can find the same services.

And if you really want to see a country you should just do it instead of whining :P Trip to russia might be expensive, but you can also get some bus trip for 150 euro to mosow (saw it in an advert some day ago).
But well I just saved a bit and paid 900 euro for my flight ticket, but it's worth it to visit one of the most beautiful countries in the world. (going in january, bye bye winter! :D)
Parent
Haha, nice. 900€ is pretty expensive though, are there seriously no cheaper plane tickets?
Whatcha gonna do in Indonesia btw?
Goin alone or with a group?
Parent
cheapest was 830 euro, but then I would have to go to london first, which will be more expensive after all.

I'm going alone, I'm going to meet a girl there (already chatting with her for more than a year and her aunt is working in the same place as me) and she is going to be my guide to the many cool places in and around Bandung, such as volcanic craters. And if the temples in yogyakarta are already open we'll go to see them too, but until new they are closed because of the volcanic ashes of the merapi volcano which was bursting a month ago.
Parent
I'd go watch the games if it would be BE/NL or even EN :)
Parent
football fan complaining that money can buy anything. interesting.
haha +1
good point :-) specially knowing fumble is a chelsea fan, who spent millions in 1 season few years back :DDDDD
Parent
lets precise - It was Russia Roman who spent all that money. I'm sure he "helped" a bit FIFA officials to make good decision :DD
Parent
it was Roman but I didnt hear Chelsea or its fans object, they were all cheering for the amazing players he bought :-) and look at them now, 5 years later and still no CL or EL won :-)
Parent
hail !
Would have loved it to come here, but the World Cup is now about showcasing the greatest event on earth and to show people how good it is. Having it is Russia will improve football there, Qatar is the same although still a strange choice. USA or Australia would have been better.

It's often filled with the most boring football ever anyway.
QuoteIt's often filled with the most boring football ever anyway.
It's because you watch England too much =p
Parent
Haha that's a fair point, but I refuse to watch them now :)
Parent
Qatar? Dresscode, no booze, no women, huge heat during summer, suicide bombers everywhere around - sounds like a fun!
Russia? I see already supporters travelling from Vladivostok, Petersburg etc to Moscow for every stage of the cup. Nice fuck up, FIFA
You could at least check the stadiums before complaining. All games will be played on european parts of Russia.
Parent
where can I check that?
Parent
still it's quite a big distance between cities :s
Parent
The cities are organised in clusters (Moscow cluster, Petersburg cluster, south cluster, etc.) so most teams will have to fly 2-3 hours max for their groupgames. And 1 flight of 2-3 hours every 5 days don't seem a big problem to me.
Parent
Not all fans will be able to travel by plane :/ Nevermind, will do a research of that in the future :P
Parent
Russia acknowledges that and that's why ALL groundtravel (bus, train) is free for people with a WC-ticket.
Also one aircompany has pledged to offer cheap flights inside Russia for all fans with a ticket.
Parent
ok, thanks for the info
Parent
Terrorists in Qatar?? Where did you get that info from?? Source? I bet there are less terrorists in Qatar then in either Russia or England.
Parent
Qatar?! Really?!
I'm not surprised. Russian football is coming on, also look at Quatar... and they have the money to make it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-z2jtUS9-Y&feature=player_embedded
Sorry for being ignorant, but where the fuck is qatar?
I'm honestly shocked Russia got it, simply because racism is rampant. I didn't think Poland should host the euro because of the attitude of lower league supporters (monkey chants are normal and I've heard of throwing bananas at black players on the pitch...)
thats probably why they chose russia and poland.
1 form of racism results in fines for the host $$$ for FIFA win!
Parent
Didn't look at it that way -_- guess protecting the integrity of football is a non-factor.
Parent
I dont know, outing it on the highest stage is sometimes a good thing. Can make a nation come into the 21st century ;)
Parent
Attitude? In every country there are idiots who are singing racist chants, booing etc. and in Poland it isn't different. I think there were more racist accidents in Spain than in Poland last years, for example. Does that mean Spain can't organize WC/EC because of "their attitude"? :P Don't follow stereotypes.
Parent
Spain aren't great I agree. However I've seen some documentaries and I have polish friends. I'm not going by stereotypes, your lower leagues have massive racism issues. Outside of your major cities warsaw etc, foreigners aren't particularly welcome and coming from London a cosmopolitan city, any and all racism is unacceptable. It happens yes, but what are Poland doing to stop it? little to my knowlege.
Parent
In the past racism in Poland was a really big problem (including the biggest bananas throwing incident) but clearly we kicked it out from the Polish Ekstraklasa (top league), what is a massive development if we compare situation from ~10 years ago. Polish Football Association is even more rotten than FIFA and they did nothing to stop it - luckily clubs and other organizations went with big help to stop racism. I don't know much about lower leagues, so I can't say much about them. :( But at this point you are right I think.
All I want to say is that racism on the stadiums isn't that big problem in Poland nowadays. Actually biggest problem is with infrastructure. Not all roads, airports etc. will be ready until Euro 2012.
Time will tell. :D
Parent
I agree Poland has come a long way and is working hard. Yet 2012 is just around the corner, hopefully there won't be any incidents.
Parent
A Brit of all people complaining about racism? Every time a social question is discussed on crossfire, majority of the Britts spout racist shit about Indians, paki's and Polaks destroying life in England.

Every country in Europe has problems with racism (in football).
Parent
QuoteA Brit of all people complaining about racism? Every time a social question is discussed on crossfire[/b]
Parent
You claiming there's little or no racism in England?
Parent
No I'm not naive, although the situation is significantly better than in Russia and Poland.
Parent
Russia lmfao such a corrupt country and still haven't got used to democracy, majority is still dictatorshit there.

and Qatar? LOL WCYD
Russia hosting the Winter Olympics in 2014 aswell :).

Scroll up for the lols on my spam argument about Qatar getting it in 2022.
Parent
great choices.
