what would you recommend.
i mainly think of playing 1080p movies (bluray or not, doesn't matter),
maybe playing music sometimes.
ps3 or xbox?
or something else like those western digital streaming devices for pc -> tv
e: ive got a softmodded wii which plays everything u could imagine (like Gamecube backups, SNES, sega genesis, ofc Wii isos too, everything can be accessed from my miniusbharddrive :)

forget those wd streamer a lot of formats won't be played i had one...
xbox360 is shit for streaming.
even tough its graphics PC>ps3 id like to have one
anyway im dropping the idea for now ill just get the ps3 and do it the old fashioned way (plug and play)

I have a Wii but I'm not doing anything with it at the moment and selling it hardly has its use.
a wii is perfectly capable of beeing softmodded with the use of a single SD card.
you put a specific file onto that sd card and the wii will start up that file (an exploit, if u want)
and afterwards u will be able to run programs which other users have already programmed.
simple as that with the wii can:
1) play Wii games ofc (i bought a new dvd drive :)
2) the wii games can either be played from original disk or backup disk or ISO, ISOs can be saved anywhere like on sd cards with enough memory or simply usb devices (usb drive, usb harddisk, i recommend western digital without power supply)
3) every program and every homebrew software can be saved on that external harddrive too
4) u will be able to play any emulator on the wii (SNES, sega genesis, NES, N64, amiga, atari etc. even PSX is possible but didnt try that one tough yet)
5) u can play gamecube backups (u can burn 4 gamecube games on 1 DVD)
6) u can turn the wii into a movie theatre so u can play movie DVD's from it
7) u can install wiiware games, virtual console (download from internet and install on Wii) but that wont be neccessary since u can play any rom there is (u know, PC emulators? those roms can be used on the wii too)
and many many other things like custom OS interface modding bla bla..
but these points i listed are the important ones i guess
if u are interested i will find you the most modern wii of softmodding your wii (no need for a chip, just an SD card or the game twilight princess for wii or a few others) SD card is easiest by far.
also you can play ISOs online (like mario kart wii there is np always play it from harddrive)

i played mario kart wii a lot back then and a couple of times the last weeks.
also there are many other games like super smash brothers are monster hunter tri
even the SNES emulator supports online play :D
I'll look into it, especially the emulator stuff sounds awesome, what kind of mod/chip did you get?

best games are ps3 exclusices like that prototype for ps3 what was it called.. i dunno anymore
fuckin annoying game and way too complicated to me,
we just wanted to play a 2 player round and it wouldnt work out of the box..
i like nfs: hot pursuit more :)
