Books'n stuff.

Hey guys,
afaik some ppl here are able to read (anything else than crossfire).
Since I'm searching for some books I need your advice.
I just finished with Frederick Forsyth - The Cobra, which is a politic/secrent agency thriller.
Now I'm about to order Le Carrè - Our kind of Traitor, which is about the same genre.

So now I'm searching for other action/agency/spy-thrillers, just gimme names.

As usual: The people with usefull advices will get pics (either chick, cat or funny)

Thanks in advance

Need a motivational pic :D
just started reading " I Know What You Think", so far it's a really good book

( Plot summary : A guy receives two letters, he opens the first one and it includes a poem, and the command to think about a number, after that he opens the second letter and it just has the number he thought about, 10 days later the receivers of these letters die )

action/agency/spy-thrillers

Discworld series

orly?
Parent
Discworld matches ANYTHING ":D"
Parent
"NOTHING" is more exact,as its pretty uneasy to describe it :P
Parent
Discworld > all

period
Parent
ye,discoworld is pretty epic, most I love moving pictures
Parent
Nightwatch rapes all
Parent
I already checked the Tom Clancy books but which one to start with?
The Jack Ryan series? But thats kinda old and I really liked the "new technology" in "The Cobra" so I dont think I can consider "A missile which can be led by laser with an acc. of +-50meters" as cool/new.

What is this Discworld about? To lazy to google the plot, if you dont mind you could give me one or two sentences about the plot.
Parent
Discworld is about a world that is discshaped. ":D"
Parent
and lies on four elephants who stand on turtle :D
Parent
Ah okay, a guy in my class always reads that (the biggest nerd around).
He once told me about that world on four elephants standing on a turtle and I thought he must be stoned or smth...
The Discworld-series has a lot of books, doesnt it?
Parent
yes,it has pretty much books, but most of them rock pretty hard
Parent
Well, I really like phantasy but atm I want to read more of those spystories/politics-action-books.
Parent
politics-action books - what should I imagine under that term anyway?
Parent
Check the plot of "the Cobra".
Parent
and that turtle is 10000 miles long and is "swimming" through universe
Parent
did you know that she travels to place where she can reproduce?
Parent
or then again it's a he and btw he did it in 2nd book so yeah I know it :D
Parent
well "she" was meant to turtle - "ta zelva" :D
Parent
it's a he - "ten zolw"
Parent
when talking about turtle in general, its "ta zelva" moreover "ten zelvak" is pretty.. odd :D in czech we use "ta zelva" even for male turtles :P ;)
Parent
Michael Crichton - Next

cant help, just wanted to say hi :D
Hi²u

Dont like his style.
Parent
there is a new tom clancy book out
Don't really read those kind of books :(
But there is plenty of action in some of my fav novels here:- http://www.timseverin.net/viking.html

:>
You read phantasy/historic action?
I really like phantasy but most englishmen just write crap/books I dont like.
If you are into phantasy get one of the Sergej Lukianenko books (DayWatch, NightWatch, DuskWatch, The last Watch).
Parent
polish phantasy is one of best : sapkowski - the witcher, zemianski - achaja
Parent
sapkowski! <3 achaja series ain't that good btw
Parent
well, sapkowski is perfect, achaja has some weak points, but in some I liked it more than sapkowski - suffering which had achaja go through etc. but ye,sapkowski > zemiansky, but not about that much :)
Parent
jonathan franzen - freedom
Been meaning to read that due to the latest hype around it. Is it really that good/interesting?
Parent
its good... maybe not as good as the hype suggests but its still good
Parent
richard montanari - crucifix
and ofc all Dan Brown books ;)
Dan Brown, seriously?
Parent
w00t? you don't like him/his books?
Parent
I've read them all except for the last one and I remember enjoying it, too. But looking back they were all pretty dull and foreseeable.
Parent
no it's not, but these are books which you can read only once, when i watched the movie i was really bored but it's because you know everything and the whole content
Parent
The only novel I have ever read that classifies as action-spy is Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and it's fucking brilliant.
cant read Rainbow Six without the knowledge from the former Jack Ryan books...
Parent
You can most definitely. Previous books have little or no influence.
Parent
rainbow six is totally different from the ryan series, and also netforce from tom clancy is rly good and modern
Parent
Le carré
I approve.
J.M. Coetzee - Diary Of A Bad Year

Not really a thriller, more a political essay, but fun and interesting to read nonetheless.
catch 22 by heller

if u like to read and have some taste, u wont be disappointed ;)
Illuminati.
