Buy operating system, u on drugs ?
people working in that field will tell you:
if there is one thing you should buy, its the OS.
Parent
buy OS, u on drugs?
Parent
steal OS, you poor?
Parent
If you can get OS for free why pay?
Parent
and what if the OS is free ?
Parent
its not about paying money or not. its about having the original product to work with in the first place.
Parent
Yes u can use ur old HDD with an OS pre-installed.

get a modular PSU, trust me
sick case :)
surely it would have settings etc on the HD from the old PC. i literaly just plug it into the MB and it works??
Parent
exactly that :P .. just make sure u know if it's a SATA or IDE drive, they fit into different slots on the mobo ;)
Parent
Hard drive:
160 GB SATA
7200 rpm

which slot is this then
Parent
obviously u put the HDD in the harddrive-bay then connect it to the mobo, into one of the SATA slots :p
Parent
ofc but i guess the SATA slots are labelled u dont have to know which slot is which
Parent
well there's about 6 of them on ur mobo so they shouldnt be hard to find ;D
Parent
haha. and does it matter which slot i put the graphics card in out of the two??
Parent
not really, the one which is easiest i guess ..
Parent
Well you have to format first, then install your OS, then install the mobo's bios, then drivers :x Sorry if that was obvious.
Parent
That's an interesting statement. Which OS would that be?
Parent
umm what? .. i think he's already got Windows XP or smth on his current HDD
Parent
I would be surprised if simply "plugging in" your old OS installation (especially Windows XP) with completely different hardware actually works.
Parent
Yeah maybe, but u never know ;p
Parent
You sounded rather sure it would work and it seems people tend to trust your judgement. Perhaps you could add a little disclaimer.
Parent
ok ;)

I read up somewhere before that you should atleast try :)
Parent
expect lawsuits from people's pc you screwed up. Frop is le mad now. no disclaimer!
Parent
Frop is correct, not mad, mad is actually thinking that you can just 'plug n play' an existing HD with OS pre-installed and expect it to work with no problems...
Parent
in Wales you can!

Yeah maybe, but u never know ;p

its epic how confident you are this will work. You dont even have any idea if it will :).

If it doesnt il have to download an OS, wipe the HD and install. So can get it to work either way.
Parent
As I said, I read up somewhere & it said it's definately worth the try. Or u could easily d/l one yeah :)
Parent
Quotebuy a new operating system.

D:
i3? Get an i5 imo.

And I personally dont rate MSI mobos
+1 but there's a big difference in price
Parent
i5? get the i7 - 980 X imo.

4 GB ram?? rofl get 12 GB.

5750 graphics ??? get the GTX 480

you can always get better shit lol. Im not paying for it
Parent
pussy's get 12, 24gb ftw

& gtx 580 > *

: DD
Parent
i didnt go to the top since its just ridiculous im simply saying thers always something better. useless suggesting to me to get the better stuff. Give me the money then lol
Parent
pm miXer xd
Parent
orderd the stuff !! Nyke taking over ET? i think so
Parent
oo what psu u getting then ?:s
Parent
corsair 600 W Silent Pro Modular PSU :)
Parent
Was only giving an opinion. I just don't see the point in buying an i3, ok the i5 may be a little more expensive, but will last you longer and will have a much better PC.
Parent
you don't need a good PC to run porn.
I beg to differ, 1080p x264 porn doesn't run well on older hardware.
Parent
they already started with 3d porn try to watch that with an old PC XD
Parent
:O I thought they were having multiple orgasms, but it's probably my hardware that makes the movie jerk.
Parent
Rather get Antec Three hundred than some random flashy niggershit case.
It got a Fierce exterior design man.
Parent
hey babe, I have the fastest PC in the city
I upgraded recently myself for about £700 (reused the PSU/HDD/case)

CPU: Intel Core i5 760
MotherBoard: Asus P7P55D-E
Graphics: GeForce GTX 570
Memory: 4GB G Skill Trident DDR3 PC16000

Think you should go for the i5 760 it's better value for money and easily over clocked to compete with the best CPUs. As for your gfx card you're buying budget, consider an upgrade especially if you plan on playing newer games.
£440 rly is my limit tbh. I didnt rly want to spend over £400 in the first place but i bought a new case which i need/wanted alot. Cant afford to spend more on a gfx card and then like £70 more on a decent i5 etc... + if you check the benchmark it runs faster than some i5s before its even overclocked.

Living off 7p noodles for weeks at uni if i were to do this :)

This system will run all games i want to play on high graphics and fast. Soon as i come back from uni il double up the graphics and upgrade the ram etc then i can play newer games with no prob.
