New LCD n stuff

Hello,

I just bought my first LCD (omg!), 24' full hd, 2ms with 120hz / 3D. http://www.pixmania.com/pt/pt/4772347/art/acer/monitor-tft-24-wide-gd245.html?srcid=9675&Partenaire=izideal&CodePromo=oui&aftrack=TVRBek5qc3hOalk0TlE7MTI4NTc2MTU1Mjs=

(it's super big :| )

So, give me some tips because i am a fov 120 player and i don't know how to do the maths for my new screen...

I don't know if i should play with 1920x1080 or some other 16*9 resolution, but i guess the raw resolution is the best right?

Cheers and Merry Christmas

edit:
well, tested the screen and if i keep my fov / aspect ratio as the old screen if feels uber great and smooth...
BUT if i use full screen @ r_mode 8 120hz it feels weird, like if there is some motion blur :|, tested full hd but et crashed.. lol

do you known the difference when you watch a 30 fps or a 50 fps movie? well, feels the same playing at 120hz (feels like a 50 fps movie.. uber smooth)

I play with 1920x1080 on my 24' - Haven't noticed any problems.

I used this FOV calculator: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/fovcalc.php ('tis a nice site, regardless of the calculator).
9000/120 =1920
1337/120 = 1080

Use 1920 x 1080

Np.
If you played with 120fov you would have to increase your fov above 120 to keep the same image. Just keep 120fov.

If it's anything like my monitor it can only do 120hz properly in native res. Maybe you'll be lucky and be able to in downscaled resolutions.
fuck :( thats what i expected, any idea how much 120fov is at my old screen (r_mode 6 + 100hz)?

I will test the resolution stuff soon, got a 3v3 offi in 20 mins (playing at old screen)

well it's 133.17355110726 to be honest ^^

Imo 120fov at crt is too much.

I play at 110fov at LCD which is around 100fov at CRT.

I have a viewsonic 120hz and I don't specifically know about the acer, but I expect it to be a pain to get an LCD to do 120hz with scaling through software.
Parent
Use 90fov, much better.

Or 106.27 for a 16:9 screen for the 90fov @ 4:3 effect
Parent
never, been using fov 120 since... ALWAYS?
Parent
Yeah, but on an LCD you can still see a wider area while keeping the "stretching" controlled.. I.e. enemy heads are bigger :P
Parent
played 1 round with the "fat enemies", and i sucked hard.. i'm not really used to it..i really need to play in a non-wide resolution :((((

Ati gfx card i guess?

looks really nice, enjoy :)
ag0n come back to the CRT side... you know you want to =Þ
i have to slap my screen lots of time per day xD the colors become yellowish (no, its not the cable...)

the only lcd monitor i'm interested in is the BenQ XL2410T

worse than asus, acer and lg - no problem officer

this post was from last year!

On a side note, go buy the cheapest of those three. The first generation 120 Hz TFT are significantly worse than them, but I guess you know that. In my case it is the Acer, while in my opinion it is also the best. Wouldn't be a problem to spend more money on the most expensive one in my country (ASUS), though it has that cancer glossy panel so no thanks. I've ordered the Acer yesterday ; )

Can't be arsed to play on a 17" CRT @ 800x600 120 Hz anymore since I've played on my new BenQ G2220HD TFT (cheap but apart from gaming, nice), because shooting on long distances is just far easier than it has ever been before. I can barely see anything on the CRT now, despite it being damn smooth, because the LCD delivers absolutely superior contrast and sharpness in comparison to the CRT. I play with cancer 75 Hz in 1024x768 on that TFT with stretched aspect ratio (4:3 -> 16:9) just to maintain those lousy 75 Hz because my monitor is not able to deliver 75 Hz in any 16:9 resolution (not even 1280x720, while it is able to deliver 75 Hz in 1280x1024 / 1280x960)

Nevertheless I still perform much better on the CRT. I went rage because my aim dropped from objectively med+ to med- just because of the refresh rate. Not that I play ET any active anymore (I merc less than one time a week), but it just wasn't giving me any fun anymore.

Now I hope to start enjoying games (not just ET!) more than I've ever done before : )

Last point, going from 21.5" to 24" (23,6"?) - saw the difference in a computer shop. You'd think that it is small? Not at all, I will be enjoying movies etc. more than I've done before too.

Even browsing the web will be better. I used to browse the web with 1024x768 at 85 Hz to not stress the CRT, now I browse the web with 1920x1080 at 60 Hz. 120 Hz will be damn smooth and much less eye demanding : >

no he does not want to because he bought a 120 Hz LCD

a CRT is still slightly better for gaming (by like 0.01%) though
Parent
just blame people who are able to mess with et code
- they could do r_aspectratio thingy working + r_mode
- still thinking why configs are forcing to fov 120 since calculating for widescreen makes about 130
- kinda they can mess up with netcode or showing real ping, since 98 isnt 98

etcetc
what? I just.. haven't understood anything
Parent
True, but the most ridiculous thing is that maxpackets are forced to 100 instead of 125.
Parent
though 100 was the max possible value at ET
Parent
+1 so hard I want fov 130 :x
Parent
share your experiences please :)
gtfo with that high fov, just like Canada anim the newb!
120hz LCD, my dream, CURSE YOU!

congratz :)
was fucking expensive.. been waiting for this one for long time xD
Parent
Apart from using the big resolution, are you liking 120hz LCD technology?
Parent
haven't played on this one yet... gonna test now =)
Parent
tell me about it.. was thinking of buying one but even on ebay its to pricey for me :(

anyway tell me if it worth it! :D

Welcome to the club :PP
y0 shawty its yo birthday

Haha, mines arriving tomorrow!
IMO CB should allow higher fovs then!!!! it feels so weird playing with 120fov with this new screen :|
Just invested in a RGB cable & connected the pc up to the 42" LCD. Everythings a bit pixely on firefox.

Awesome for streaming videos + no need for an aerial \o/ next step is to buy a nice shiny new ludicrously priced laptop.
