Comp Journal #1337

Hey CF, atm I'm thinking about buying a new computer.
Here are the specs:

Intel® Core™ i7 Prozessor 860 (2,80 GHz, 8 MB)
Original Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, Deutsch
GRAFIKKARTE 1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 5870 graphics card
8192MB (4x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Memory
16 x DVD+/- RW
1,5 TB SATA-Festplatte (7.200 1/min)
Dell 1525 Wireless PCIe Network Card 802.11n

Price: 1409€

What do you think?

I know that buying the parts and building on my own would be cheaper but I want the warranty stuff

lol?
It's pretty good, but you could get a better processor without making it that much more expensive.

E: And yeah, there's around 500e extra in the price, but if that's what you want to pay for 'warranty', then go ahead.

E2: >Dell
:-----D
Yeah but in that configuration the next best processor would be +320€ since the standard model was an i5 and i already upgraded it to an i7

Wait for new ATI's graphic card series
They're here already
Parent
whoops, u r right, i've even read yesterday some article about this new ATI vs GeForce

So why would you buy some old version? Get a new one!
Parent
Well, there's no real difference between the new cards and the old ones as far as I know. Performance-wise the top-level 5xxx-cards are just as good as the current 6xxx-cards, and both already support DX11. Pretty much the only real difference is the price (and I hear the 6xxx-cards also have very buggy drivers).

The 6k series features changes in the GPU architecture, if they had been able to utilize the smaller manufacturing process would have more powerful, feature-full cards. However the company supplying the silicon had issues so they had to reconfigure the chips for the old die size, this forced them to remove some potential features (atleast the internet think so) and made them not a huge performance change from the 5k series. So it was a lackluster product refresh but the next line should be interesting
Parent
yeah but as you might be able to see: I dont really need the latest stuff.
Parent
u get warranty if u buy parts and make it urself too. kinda much ,but depends on what u wanna do with it.

how much does this cost? :/
~150e usually.
Parent
dunno but 7prof premium 64bit would be +130€
Parent
home premium should be enough.

8 GB RAM. This is useless.
So :
- RAM
+ SSD
ATI is shit for Q3 Engine.
And new Intel architecture Sandy Bridge is coming on 9th January.
Unless the drivers are horrible, 5k series card is going to crush any Q3 game... I mean, yes the nVidia cards potentially provide more stable performance, but seriously, my 9600GT plays pretty much any Q3 engine game well enough anyways, nevermind a fucking HD5870
