GTX570 / GTX580

My 8800GT just died and ordered a GTX570. Anyone here using either the 570 or 580? If yes, can you play ET with the newest drivers on fullscreen with a low resolution? (ex: 1024x768) Because when I installed the newest 8 series drivers ET could only be played with image: bordera on a resolution of 1024x768. Thanks in advance

didnt people tell you that r_displayrefresh 75 streches ET to fullscreen if it isnt forced by the nvidia drivers anymore?
many people had that problem (altho they only had black borders to the left and right of the centre, not top and bottom).
mmmmmmmmmm... borrelnooootjuuuuuhs
Why did you order the GTX 570? If i look your profile you are playing 1680x1050. The card is a bit overkill for that, GTX 460 would have been enough already.

It's always better to buy mid end graphics cards with a good price/performance ratio. Just like your 8800GT was. Unless you are playing a really high resolution or multiple screens with eyefinity for example.

For example if you would buy 150~ euro graphics card now like GTX 460/HD5850/HD6850, and than in 2 years you would buy GTX 660 for 150 again ( just an example ) The GTX 660 will blow your GTX 570 away than, but you will have more performance overall.

Also did you try to bake your 8800GT in the oven

- Antec Truepower New 650W
- ASRock 870 Extreme3, AM3, ATX

- Xigmatek Asgard II Midi Tower

what do you think about the hardware? Should be delivered today! Another question, should I try to build that shit up on my own, even if I've never build a PC before?

read the manual with motherboard, its basically a manual how to build a computer most of the time.
I would have bought 1055T instead, and i think the psu is overkill, its a good one tho. And i would have bought ram with lower cas latency since AMD likes that.

But it looks fine.

alright, thanks! =)

Stop reading my mind ! :D

how do you know all this shit

Ain't you missing a GPU?
Also I would go for a 6 GB-Kit (almost same price).
Rather buy a Big Tower because it comes in handy when you install your hardware.
And last but not least buy a power supply of a renowned manufacturer. Else it could die very soon. Power supplies are quite prone to defects nowadays.

The rest seems fine in my opinion :)
Of course you can install it by yourself. It ain't that hard mate.

6GB kit, you won´t have dual channel. Than you will need 8GB
so 4GB is faster.
And i also prefer a big tower, but for average user it´s not needed.

And the power supply is one of the best avail on the market now.
Parent
Ah yeah AMD does not support Tripple Channel. Sorry I forgot :)

using my old 250gb HDD and the radeon HD 4850! thinking about getting a new GPU, as they will be quite cheap soon and I actually just need mid-end stuff zenix was talking about! anything specific I need to pay attention to while seting up the hardware? cheers.

Nah nothing special. Just don't put too much heatsink paste on your CPU (Google for some tutorial or so). Well and of course don't use force when you are installing your components.
Parent
That PSU is nice though :PP

At least mine lasted a few years of abuse \o/

Well, I'm currently in the whole streaming scene and it requires quite a highend graphiccard in combination with a nice upload speed. I know some of my components aren't really up to date, but will change things over the year. Also planning to buy another 27" monitor. Money isn't really an issue either, so ye. ;d

lololol rich boy

please i am pretty sure there is a solution for fixing lower resolution -_-
pretty sure is not enough
