torres isn't a player for this price, he's nothing special

+ he looks like he's 12 :_D
tbh football itself is a cool sport but as you see on the highest level it's just a ridicilious money business game.. champions league with always the same teams (with a few exceptions from time to time) cause the other teams just don't have the same amount of money..
Miniscule compared to American sports.
Parent
the point is the same
Parent
Not really. They earn relatively the same.
Parent
Relatively? How does that work in this context?
Parent
Top footballers earn relatively the same as other sporting players in America.
Parent
How can you 'relatively' earn the same as someone else? I don't get what you mean :P
Parent
He said that European footballers earn nothing compared to American sport players, yet some footballers earn in the excess of £11,000,000 when top American athletes earn around £16,000,000. So the wages aren't that different. Don't know if that answered your question :D
Parent
Ronaldo $18,000,000 a year.
Bryant $24,000,000 a year.
Eli Manning $20,000,000 a year.
Alex Rodriguez $27,000,000 a year.

e. It was more to do with money in American sports as opposed to individual players :)
Parent
Best players in sport there earn double what the best one in europe does :p And if NHL didnt have capped pay there would be sick.
Parent
Really?

Just look at MLB wages. The very top of football, Messi & Ronaldo earn a shed load, but after that there is a difference. In MLB and even the NBA there are a lot of players on over $20,000,000 a year.
Parent
Granted they earn more, but I never opposed that. The statement in which you said that the money is miniscule compared to American sports is ridiculous.
Parent
The money involved in American sports is a lot more than Europe. You took the debate to individuals and were proven wrong.

You misunderstood my original statement anyway.

QuoteMiniscule compared to American sports.

As in...

Quotee. It was more to do with money in American sports as opposed to individual players :)
Parent
If you are classing sports as a collective then yes. America is a much larger country and has a larger variety of "national" sports. It's stupid to assimilate football with a whole countries sporting wage structure, it's like comparing your local shop to walmart.
Parent
my local shop is walmart
Parent
No it's not? The whole of Europe compared to America, not just the UK.
Parent
Will be interesting to see if torres and drogba does as well as suarez and carroll :)
ye carroll + suarez should be excellent pair too :d
Parent
QuoteWell Torres has been playing kind of shitty this season with ..what? - 9 goals throughout the entire season?...Compare him to Berbatov who's the lead scorer in the league with 19
Parent
sug min kuk
he will be injured before long
he's not a blue shirt kind of guy
torres inside chelsea ?!
with all the defensive issues that Chelsea still have... and they spend 80/90 mil on two strikers.... epic lols, new Tottenham!

At least Liverpool got a backup goal keeper in Suarez, can have an extra outfield player on the bench :>
they didnt buy 2 strikers:P they bought him + david luiz from benfica - defender :d
Parent
he is Brazilian yes?
Parent
well there you go, he is a "striker" :p
Parent
Given his shape this season, the amount of money involved is absolutely ridiculous. He's not worth half of that right now. I hope he'll keep sulking on the pitch without no real interest in what's going on around, perhaps get injured once or twice and just turn out to be a massive disappointment.
see, it's not the point how much he's worth, i'm pretty sure liverpool know he's not worth that much, but if you can get that much money out of him, why not?
Parent
That wasn't my point. I simply think that it takes some serious retardation to spend that much on Torres. Carroll is not worth 35m either, but Liverpool didn't have much choice if they wanted to find a quick replacement.
Parent

fucking crybaby like almost all the other south european footballists

hope he dies in carfire
Absolutely nuts to pay 41 mil. € for Carroll. That man played ONE good half season in the Premier League. Considering all the weak spots in Liverpools team they should have taken care of it gets even more ridiculous. Panic transfer deluxe.
agreed, they need a left back more than anything else

drogba+torres = epic strikers

we will see ;p
football sucks, icehockey all the way ;)
He is a good looking guy!
