new computer - general questions?

Hey,
I think about buying a new computer but I am not aware of the current hardware situation...

so some general questions:

AMD or Intel?
the newest amd generation got 6 cpus right? But Intel is still faster (atleast that`s what I have seen on most benchmarks...) - so what to buy? And how long until the newest generations will become less expensive (or how long until intel or amd will release new cpus?)

Nvidia or Radeon?
Nvidia GTX 470/570 or a Radeon HD6950/6970?
Is crossfire or sli worth a try? or too expensive compared to the advantage they bring?

Due to my job (and my working schedule) I will not have much time to play on a competitive level but I want to enjoy the few hours I can spend per week with gaming or playing some new games like Brink, Crysis 2, Battlefield 3 and so on...

so any recommendations?

amd & ati for gaming.
AMD + ATI = More bang for buck
Intel + nVidia = Better Performance

AMD has 6 cores (i have the 1055T and its really fast idd) but intel has more threads/works faster per core. AMD are releasing the Bulldozer CPU's in the summer & also, intel has a slight problem with the Sandy Bridge compatible mobo's (if i'm correct) - the P67's, etc.. and that problem should be solved in a few weeks.

GTX 570 is obviously better but a bit more expensive - the gtx 460 is also very good for its price. I wouldn't try CF/SLI atm simply because you don't need it with a high end gfx card. Better to buy a decent one now then you can double it up in the future.

hf :P
The intel problem with sandybridge cpu's lies only in the chipset. And it's actually less bad than proposed, though a problem for some.

The problem lies with an overvoltage of certain parts which would wear down the SATA300 ports over time. All the rest is unaffected. Since the chipset has SATA600 ports, using them is better at any rate.

idd, miXer is buying a "faulty" SB mobo but it doesn't really matter seeing as he's got a SATAIII HDD which goes into the 3rd port while his SSD + optical drive fit nicely into the other ports :P

intel + ATI = best
why u think ati is better? they fucking have shit drivers

cheap and good.

get 6 2.1 ghz cores
6x2.1=12.6 ghz !!!
CPU performance is more than raw clockspeed brah.

i know lol

I've got 6 @ 3.5GHz = 21

cba to OC more :P
Parent
guys u cant multiplicate the GHz :)
i.E. Et will not use 6 cores like many other programms neither. More cores means mostly more programms are able to run paralell.

i know lol

btw: some shops offer a "water cooling system" ... do I have to take care of the water and stuff (i.e. do i have to change water or something ;pp?)
just forget about them. air cooling with decent (huge) heatpipes is good enough and costs far less.

thx4this information!

that's what u can't find when u google for that imo
Parent
the question u wanna ask is, sea watter or pipe water, or beer!
Parent
if you need to ask questions like this then u rly dont need water cooling system :)

Like someone said, if you don't know anything about it just don't buy it :D
