new computer - general questions?

Hey,
I think about buying a new computer but I am not aware of the current hardware situation...
so some general questions:
AMD or Intel?
the newest amd generation got 6 cpus right? But Intel is still faster (atleast that`s what I have seen on most benchmarks...) - so what to buy? And how long until the newest generations will become less expensive (or how long until intel or amd will release new cpus?)
Nvidia or Radeon?
Nvidia GTX 470/570 or a Radeon HD6950/6970?
Is crossfire or sli worth a try? or too expensive compared to the advantage they bring?
Due to my job (and my working schedule) I will not have much time to play on a competitive level but I want to enjoy the few hours I can spend per week with gaming or playing some new games like Brink, Crysis 2, Battlefield 3 and so on...
so any recommendations?

Intel + nVidia = Better Performance
AMD has 6 cores (i have the 1055T and its really fast idd) but intel has more threads/works faster per core. AMD are releasing the Bulldozer CPU's in the summer & also, intel has a slight problem with the Sandy Bridge compatible mobo's (if i'm correct) - the P67's, etc.. and that problem should be solved in a few weeks.
GTX 570 is obviously better but a bit more expensive - the gtx 460 is also very good for its price. I wouldn't try CF/SLI atm simply because you don't need it with a high end gfx card. Better to buy a decent one now then you can double it up in the future.
hf :P
The problem lies with an overvoltage of certain parts which would wear down the SATA300 ports over time. All the rest is unaffected. Since the chipset has SATA600 ports, using them is better at any rate.
6x2.1=12.6 ghz !!!
cba to OC more :P
i.E. Et will not use 6 cores like many other programms neither. More cores means mostly more programms are able to run paralell.
that's what u can't find when u google for that imo
