Installing win 7

Hi guys,

I have a HP laptop with win 7 home 32 bit. Now, via my university, I can download win 7 professional both 32 bit and 64 bit. Is it hard to delete the current win 7 and replace it with the new one? Because my laptop is much slower than it was before and if I am going to reinstall it anyway I prefer win 7 professional. Or aren't there any much advantages compared to the home edition ?

When I want to install win 7 professional:
- Can I just open the file I will download and follow steps ?
- Will that automaticly delete all the files currently on my hdd ?
- Will I keep files such as HP recovery ?
- Do I have to download new drivers?

Thanks for your help :)

You will have to mount or burn it.
mounting works because you dont have to boot from CD in order to install win7 (as it sued to be with XP) but simply install it from an already running OS.
it will move your old OS (and all of its files) to a folder called windows.old.
so you dont have to format and loose all data any more.
as you will use a fresh OS ofc you will have to reinstall drivers.
but there is no real need to change from home to pro.
Exactly what he said.

make sure you can find all the correct drivers for your hardware before you do that though because some laptop component drivers are pretty obscure
infuckingdeed, installed win7 on my acer and now can't find some drivers :/

you can get them through acer support site usually but knowing which one to use when they give you 4 choice for an unlabelled component is tricky :DD:

if u install 64bit, then u will need to install it on a separate drive or replace the current boot drive (C:) which wil erase all the data on C:. just in case u dont know, u cant upgrade from 32bit to 64bit but yes u can upgrade from home edition to professional or ultimate.
msdnaa rulez :D
use XP
