ET Bug

I have worked out another bug, which hasn't been found yet (I'm guessing). Allows me to crash a server, I think it also works without even being connected to the server. Where do I report bugs like these? I guess it would be possible to crash all servers on the master list in 1 go with an app I made a long time ago and it is publicly available (there is a few about).

Found it whilst looking for a bug people was using on Cyber to crash it.

why not just write the lua fix yourself
I wouldn't feel comfortable writing it, just incase it created more problems. I need the code to be looked at first, might be fixed already also.

I created an application for ETTools, not for this purpose, BUT, it can be used with this bug.

But really, if it's just the wwwdl exploit, it's been found and fixed ages (= several months) ago. And no, it's not fixed on Cybergames. Judging by this "not being connected to a server" bit I could assume you're talking about the very same thing.
Similar to that bug, I found that 1 out at the same time (since noone wanted to share it).

I've never said I'd take care of the necessary steps to get it into the next configs but to get it considered when time for such talks have come. A reason for new talks could e.g. be a new season OR a critical bug like "this" that can be abused ;)

I know, i'm trolling with you :) i just hope you don't forget this issue. It's a ET/q3 engine bug, would be really great to change something for a while.

Same goes to simple items, gunxyz, unlock maxpackets (60-10) and some other stuff. Source code has been released, some stuff could be changed. 6v6 would be a must btw :>

If it has to do with the client-server download system or if it was usable without being connected to the server there would be no way to fix it with LUA.

why dont you unlock some cvars that are blocked for no reason such as cg_gunx/y/z or the fov limit? :(

fov limit definately is there for a reason my friend :) one can argue though that it should be less strict due to fov-bug but thats a different question

I agree that fov limits shall keep between some numbers, like 80 - 140 to avoid the bugs and stuff. Can't see a single reason to keep it 90-120

the reason for a restriction is quite obvious due to the definition of the word

you will not want somebody being able to use fov 180 to see 360° all around. Thus limitations are made and were calibrated to what they have been for probably 5 or more years now. Unless there is a real reason to change them I do not see one.

The bug we are talking about has something to do with screen resolution on widescreen monitors and fov, I can not really explain it, more likely it is not a bug, its just the fact that your et is streched and thus looks like another fov (imo). I'm not into that topic right now so do not take my words for certain. ag0n will be glad to elaborate for sure.

Ah, yeah, I quite misunderstood your post. I thought you meant the range in which a player's fov setting must be when you said "limit", but obviously you actually meant having a limit for the fov in the first place.

But yeah, the range should be larger. Besides, I doubt "exploiting" it by having an insanely large fov would have much use anyways, as most of the time knoweledge of your surroundings in-game comes from listening to where your enemy is and general gamesense. Having a 180 fov would only impact negatively on one's gameplay.

But why are things like cg_gunx and ambientscale locked? That doesn't make much sense to me.

@ EIM, yes it is a ET bug. Even if ET allows widescreen resolutions, it isn't a native thing thats why it looks weird (plus we need a new fov to get the old "aspect"

It's not a bug, it's simply how field of vision works. The same phenomenom is seen in every game. Many new games, however, adjust the fov according to your resolution so that it matches the intended values, but those games don't usually allow you to set your own desired fov.

Yeah, I have that too. However it's no problem for me because I used to have 90fov on a 4:3 display and on a widescreen that's 106.27

in order to use ambientscale (without hijacking/injecting [whatever] etpro) cheats have to be enabled as it is listed as one of the cheat-cvars in et/etpro (dont ask me why), so that is not an option for configs

LUA is bad for ET.
I know lot security bugs,because I have looked whole ET GPL soucre and found tons of security problems.Make 2.70 patch.
