hostels/hotels in amsterdam centre

can anyone recommend some places to stay in the city centre of amsterdam?

i'm doing research blah blah but it'd still help a lot

some walking distance from the central train station and around 30-40eu per night per person is ideal (4 of us are going)

also, any tips on places to go, things to do etc. will be appreciated

I've heard good things about the Flying Pig hostels. Never been there myself obv because I live here. Their Downtown hostel is only like 2 mins away from central station.

When are you coming to Amsterdam?

Stayed at something called the albus hotel (http://www.albushotel.com/nl/index.html?gclid=CIXx_oasnKcCFcOIDgod-TrFcA) which seemed like a decent hotel and is well located. Not sure what the prices are.

There are so many things to see in Amsterdam, it's best to just see what dates you're coming and who's playing where (for partying).
