blackberry :p
HTC Desire.
HTC Desire HD is pretty good tbh
I own a google nexus one.
and i am quite satisfied with it.
the latest galaxy or a HTC mobile.
Anything with Android. Don't do the mistake like me and buy a Nokia. They are using Symbian OS which is limited with few "good" apps.
i had nokia mobile's since ever (more than 10 yrs i guess).

but i wanna try smth else now, cuz with the new nokia's i also do not like the design etc o0 :D

nokia 3310
HTC Desire HD
samsung galaxy i 9000 s got it myself + new update: android 2.2 with flashplayer :))
I bought myself a ZTE Blade aka Orange San Fransico on ebay for 180 euro. It's a nice android phone and fast enough for internet stuffs but the quality games wont run smooth on it and the camera sucks. But the display is much better as in most cheaper Android phones, 800x480 reso + there is a community around it which it making a lot custom roms. It gets shipped with Android 2.1, but flashing to 2.2 only took me 15 minutes and there are even 2.3 roms out for the ZTE Blade. + sim unlock codes can be generated free on the internet.
site for custom roms etc: http://android.modaco.com/category/453/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/
Samsung galaxy S

has everything you want, is an awesome phone and i would take that one again if i could choose between iphone 4 and galaxy.
indeed, Galaxy S isn't too well known compared to the iPhone, but it is 100x better.

i wouldnt say better, but at least its decent and not overhyped like iphone

Well I think the Android software is better, but the phones themselves are similar.

HTC Desire HD, if its too big for ya try HTC Desire, best out there imo

using HD for a few months now and it kicks ass
htc desire = fail battery
Desire HD is the better option

Quotehtc desire = fail battery
Not true, mine lasts just under 3 days, this is normal for most HTC phones these days :)

got one aswell and it works just 1 day for me
( i surf with it when im on the train and write some messages during the day nothing special )
my friend got an hd and is ALWAYS playing with it and his battery is just way better :c

HTC Desire HD if it isnt too big for you (i would try it out.. i dont have any problem with its size at all.. even use a leather-case and still no problems with any of my trousers/jeans.

Other thing which some people cry about is the battery: I´m at army atm and play the whole day with my phone and it lasts the whole day (re-charging during night). Also get juicefender which is a rly nice tool to extend the battery life :> so not a real problem their either (if you dont play 12 hours non-stop, 48hours arent a problem)

Looks awesome, 8mp camera, doesnt feel cheap & plastic (like samsung galaxy s) cause its only aluminium/glas with a bit of plastic. I think its still the fastest phone you can get in europe (not 100% sure tho as i stopped reading about new phones when i bought the Desire HD). Atleast its faster than the iphone 4 & galaxy S. Has adobe flash so watching internet movies is np !

HTC Sense is fucking awesome too (its some addon for Android which only HTC phones have). Way too many features to list it here.. just check youtube videos for android 2.2 and htc sense (or just Desire HD reviews.. there they will mention HTC Sense anyway :P).
I have a Samsung Captivate aka Samsung Galaxy S, I love it. I have used iPhones and such, yes they are a great product I can't deny that. However, its as simple as when I went to buy my new phone the Captivate was just dropped to 150, and I had a $50 discount cause of family plan and being with them for fucking ever, so $100. Was like alright... but the rep mentions, does not apply to iPhones, all of them. $50 more for a phone that is exactly the same to me in essence, I could use an iPhone 4 or some Android smartphone and be happy. So, why pay more for something thats not really any different to me... Anyways, I rooted and flashed it with Perception, a custom Froyo rom and love it, waiting on 2.3.3 to be ported so I can flash to that :D
Choose wisely. I decided to save money, bought this: http://www.chinavasion.com/qwerty-cell-phones/touch-screen-mobile-phone-with-wifi-analog-tv-dvbt/

You can:
Call with it (has dual-sim, no need to boot or anything when choosing what to use)
SMS with it
Decent video / camera (who really uses phone to replace digi-cam?)
Watch vids (resolution isnt that good compared to "top brands, but you can clearly see subtitles and small stuff too)
Watch TV with it, it has analog/digital receiver in it
Radio & mp3, microSD-card (2gig incl, supports 16gig)
Way lighter than other similar
Cheap as soap, so it doesnt matter if you break it

EDIT: About facebook, it works fine via its own app, otherwise browsing isn't that good with opera mini. Haven't tried other programms though since I don't use phone for those.
get some smartphone with decent keyboard (means not touchpad)
depends a bit what you're looking for, if you're interested in a shitload of apps, an android phone seems like the obvious choice.. just check some reviews and find the one you like most.

personally I was in the same situation as you and didn't want an iPhone cause that's what everyone has and not a big fan of their iTunes bs and stuff anyways. You could check out Windows Phone 7, windows new mobile OS, samsung, HTC, LG amongst other has these. I got a Samsung Omnia 7 and I like it a lot. The interface especially is sick imo. There are two problems though that are quite major. It doesn't have as many apps as android or iOS, but it's steadily growing, it already caught up with blackberry afaik. The other one is that it's basically only optimized for the US market as of now, in sweden we still don't have direct access to the marketplace which is quite ridicilous. You can bypass this however by just adding a US hotmail adress to the phone (which I did) I have been downloading and using US apps now since I've had it in november and it works fine :) but I have not tried purchasing any apps.

Safest bet would be to go for an anroid with it's huge variety of phones and apps, if not, you can always check out the WP7 =)
