Help with WD ext. disk

So i got a My Passport Essential and i can't safely remove it, been googling shizz about it and didn't find anything useful. So if someone has or had something similar pls share your solutions.

I never use it, but it is a good feature. Stops corruption, missing data and read/write redundancy problems.

close any programs that have got files on that drive

pull the cable out

turn it off, take the hard disk out of the enclosure, put it into your tower like normal

close all programs that have got files on that drive or that use them (e.g windows commander)

try install that WD maintanance stuff or how is that called, it has its own "safely remove" option

i have never pressed Safely Remove Hardware for a usb pen / external drive and I have never had one die on me

my internal drive full of porn however has died :<

obvious. external and internal were in love, and because of your bad maintaining external disc, it caught corrupted files and was supposed to die. but love of internal drive was too big, so it sacrificed itself, absorbed corrupted data from external disc and died. very sad storry, but real one idd.

Well you've been lucky, ( not for the porn obviously ) but I had like 2 USB key which died because of this shit (some 16GB ones ) + 1 external HDD (200GB)

haha get a network attached storage with raid mirroring if you are using this stuff to share between machines on the same network soooo much easier!

did u try to recover it with some HDD utilities ?Even broken you could still try to get some datas back.

I think Acronis True image has a feature made for recovers.

i think the actual circuit board on the hdd corrupted rather than the data sectors

if you put it an internal bay no machine will even post bios thats how fucked it is, just blank screen and nothing happens - so can't even boot into linux with it plugged in ;d

and it just causes ERROR status in external housings

Does the engine even start? I had that kind of problem, closed pc and the next time i turned pc on my hdd engine failed and like 1.5k € minimal for restoring 320 GB disc is kind of killer. : (

power runs through the mobo and all the devices and fans but it must be blocking something cause the mobo doesn't even beep just nothing happens!

the only cheap solution i can think of would be to change the actual board for one from another hdd of the same model and hope it works but im not quite that bothered :p

my Samsung F1 1tb drive is also dying.. never had a drive fail on me.. keep gettin the windows popup so annoying
