best antiviruses

helping a friend atm and he says he has trojans and stuff, gave him spybot s&d some time ago and (i know its not the same as a virus scanner) it found a few trojans but just to make sure nothing "bad" happens to his PC what are the best other options to use? AVG/Avira etc, would be nice if you could link them but if not it's cool.

depends.. It's detecting a lot of false stuff, like image-et or SLAC, but you easily can set an exception for them.

avast seems quite good and it's also for free for personal use.
though ensam is right and those are just personal opinions and everyone's just posting the av which he is using anyways.

antivirus reviews.. although you can't expect identical top lists, expecting similar test results would be logical, but the top lists always seem so random to me.. if you have viruses, just format.. PCs are fast these days and in many cases you'll lose less or equal amount of time reinstalling the OS and applications compared to cleaning the existing installation where you may end up not removing everything malicious in the end

if you're simply careful what you run, turn off auto play and keep your windows and programs up to date, you'll avoid majority of viruses

thats why i have a image of my "perfect windows" with everything installed and stuff.. at my 2nd hdd :)
everytime something goes wrong i just recover and in 20mins i have everything ready again (and fast...)

avast.and btw is no use to have antivirus and spyware in same time because they will deactivate each other if u know what i mean.most antiviruses has spyware and malware already implemented
