quakelive and UAC

since i have UAC at the maximum lvl + set "ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin" to "1", i cant play quakelive anymore. It said fatal error and thats it (when joining a game). disabling UAC makes it work (after a reboot).

any fix to play quakelive with UAC enabled?

thanks

@edit: re-installed it -> works

why uac is enabled?
after reading some articles about it, it seems its pretty much one of the best security tools for windows :o without even beeing that annoying.

kinda hard to believe since every security made by microsoft sucks hard
Parent
imo microsoft security essential 2 is also one of the best AV´s you can get :P

UAC is crap. You're better of with your antivirus dealing with it anyway.
not rly.

actually uac is a pretty usefull thing. If you then put it on the highest level + "ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin" = "1" then malware also cant disable it.

uac will tell you everytime when something (doesnt matter what it is) wants to access/modify data which it shouldnt need to access to (windows files, user stuff,...).

@edit: uac will tell you when smth does:

Running an Application as an Administrator
Changes to system-wide settings or to files in %SystemRoot% or %ProgramFiles%
Installing and uninstalling applications
Installing device drivers
Installing ActiveX controls
Changing settings for Windows Firewall
Changing UAC settings
Configuring Windows Update
Adding or removing user accounts
Changing a user’s account type
Configuring Parental Controls
Running Task Scheduler
Restoring backed-up system files
Viewing or changing another user’s folders and files
Running Disk Defragmenter

My antivirus does that, so I don't need UAC, you mad bro
Parent
yep mine does it too and like 700 others do the same. but they are all bypassable. UAC isnt (with the right settings).

besides that you can kill most av´s/fw´s with malware anyway...
Parent
Everything is bypassible.

And lol, you'd have to have pretty crappy av to get caught off guard by malware.
Parent
i have a 1 year old trojan-builder on my pc which is still fully undedectable to any AV... its pretty "easy" to "bypass" an AV.

and no, UAC isnt bypassbale with the right settings.
Parent
Dude, everything is bypassible. Everything.
Parent
"and no, UAC isnt bypassbale with the right settings."

stop acting naive, it's not like you're the first one to say the program he's using isn't bypassable...
Parent
without admin password and access to the hardware itself (so sitting infront of the laptop/pc) there is no way until now on how to bypass UAC. With lower settings / without password prompt - there is.
Parent
"admin password"
"until now"

is there a way to bypass root pw on linux? for what i know there wasnt a way for the last xxxx years ?
Parent
even if you're having a compareable safety you're _not_ as safe as a linux user
Parent
according to some articles about UAC (from microsoft and some other well known security site but cant find the link anymore): UAC with the right settings + password prompt is as secure as linux and its root pw.

But since 99% of people work on win7 with default UAC settings while beeing logged in as admin, you wont have any real security.

Put UAC on max level (win7)
Work with a standart user

UAC will give you a password prompt everytime smth needs admin priviliges or tries to modify / access data which only admins should need.

Aswell as UAC cant be disabled/bypassed when having those settings,
