ET sound problem.

I running ET, and it mostly works ok, except for one infuriating problem. It seems that the game will often 'freeze' for a fraction of a second while it's playing audio clips. Especially the very first time a particular clip plays. Since ET has hundreds of different audio clips, at least it seems like (weapon sounds, environmental sounds, announcer chatter ("Dynamite Planted", etc), and player voice chats "I need a medic!", etc), the game is practically constantly doing this.
Is there some way get ET to pre-cache all the sounds, to reduce or elliminate this problem? Or am I just stuck with this because I have a cheapo sound card? (With a laptop, I'm not sure you can really upgrade the sound, unfortunately).

defines amount of sounds played at same time +amount of time music is buffered before it is played, depending on other settings at same time
