Hello /cf
Judging by the fact I have no style what so ever when it comes to being a fine ass gentleman (the whole deal, suit, tie, shoes) I need your help to decide what would be a good WATCH to wear. As one of my colleagues stated, people look at your face, then your belt, then your watch, and last but not least, your shoes (FLAME ON - words coming from an entrepreneur with a couple of MBA's and EMBA's).
Probably this is a question some of you might say "Go to /fa" or something, but I don't want their hipster retarded opinions. So what I need of you fine gentlemen of xfire is your opinion on what would be a good watch, within a range of let's say 100US to 300US (little cheap? most likely but I don't want to spend a whole lot - TAG, Omega - and then change my mind or get fired).
As of right now my only choice is the Orient Men's Black Mako HERE and open to a lot of suggestions.
Thank you very much

what ever you do, dont get one of those big fat shit watches that are 10 times bigger than your arm wrist. Not only it looks shit & stupid but also when you wear a suit, the shirt will always be behind the watch cause the watch is too fat for the shirt wrist/joint. Or you make the shirts wrist wide enough so the watch goes under it.. but then it looks stupid again.
Generally i found Tissot to be pretty much the best option for a good quality and good looking watch for a reasonable price.. if you like watches then you propably want some automatic one (like the tissot le locle automatic. The bottom is made of glass so you can see the inside). The watch is a bit heavier and bigger than non automatic ones but its still far from beeing to big. Automatic watches are more expensive tho..
you could get most tissot´s as automatic and non automatic.
this is the one i have:

but there are many different le locles (leather/metal bracelet, black/white dials, with date / without date,.... )
not exact but kinda same
be who you are, theres no point in trying to act all impressive to a load of judgemental cunts, if you are a good guy then let that do the impressing
"What does your suit look like firstly?"
Answer the questions more precisely then!
You really don't know how to phrase a question then.
Think it's pretty clear I stated I don't wear suits, hence, the question :D
For suits, you should be wearing something smarter than that in my eyes, for instance I have a pair like: but it black that I wear for work (though for long events, I'd prefer them to have an insole for comfort).
Mine are from jones:
Fossil watches r awesome
these are populair but they look like the watches you can put candy in.
on some ppl the white one looks good imo

edit: my sunglasses are £140 oakley ones there banging. Look fresh
@edit: same for watches from d & g, hugo boss, diesel,..
everyone with style gets these watches, and i mean everyone. obviously Rolex aswell
So coca cola is super awesome known and makes a very good drink.. but their cars would suck ! :P
$30 chinese quartz with a £300 markup
rolex, you've got a point
all high brand clothing, some high performance sports cars are so overpriced for what they are. its the brand that warrants the price tag.
Ted Baker suits are just as good quality as M&S suits which are much cheaper. ive got diesel, armani, fcuk t-shirts. the quality is the same as loads of random t shirts i get from river island, topman, republic, cult.
your paying for the recogniton of the brand as well as quality. obviously armani are not as good at making watches as casio, rolex, omega etc. However its the recognition you get from other people as a result of wearing a higher brands watch.
id rather have more recognition from people and feel better intrinsicly as a result of what im wearing than simply something feeling better on my skin.

if you really believe that, you must have absolutely no idea what you're paying for
material? detail? cut? tailoring? comfort? sure, there's a markup for the label's exclusivity, but the label earns it's right to apply that markup by providing a quality product.
"your paying for the recogniton of the brand as well as quality. obviously armani are not as good at making watches as casio, rolex, omega etc. However its the recognition you get from other people as a result of wearing a higher brands watch."
if you did your research you'd know that you could buy a quality watch from a recognised watch manufacturing company (as opposed to a high street fashion brand) made by a watchmaker (as opposed to a 7 year old filipino boy) for the same price - if you recognise casio, rolex and omega i'm sure your peers do, so why not get the better watch?
"id rather have more recognition from people and feel better intrinsicly as a result of what im wearing than simply something feeling better on my skin."
would you rather have recognition from someone who can recognise quality or any other imbecile who can read a label? furthermore, there's nothing special about wearing a (insertfashionbrandhere) watch on the basis that they're neither uncommon nor worth commenting on...
you talk about "stylish" people all wearing these watches, but how do you exhibit a sense of style by wearing the same thing every faggot with a part time wage is wearing?
e: last 3 tees i bought were from diesel/ted baker/urban outfitters and i'm wearing french connection right now if that influences you perception of my perspective in some way
regardless of the brand and how good it is, the aesthetic appearence is greater.
which is one of the greatest factors in my purchases. If i saw an armani t-shirt that i didnt like the style of but i saw a superdry t shirt i liked the style of i would get that.
so you weight it all up. Does the quality of the armani watch + the aesthetic appearence of the armani watch + the brand recognition warrant the purchase of the armani watch over a casio.
in this specific case of buying a watch the look trumps the quality and the brand. In this case the look i like is made by armani, if the look i wanted was made by casio i would buy a casio. you starting to see?
no doubt casio, omega are better quality and probably last longer but the look of them are just not for me. This applies for me in the car industry, i dont like the look of a mazarati and no matter if they made some epic specifications for a cheap price i still wouldnt get one. Its personal taste.
if i found a nice casio watch i liked the look of i would get it. so far all the watches i like the most are armani and rolex over all other brands.
"I wouldn't buy fashion articles from a company that produces fashion, because I wouldn't purchase vehicles from a beverage company"
Dumbest analogy I heard all day.
people who buy armani watches and diesel watches are just random guys who like the brand but actually have no clue about watches. its all about having that cool "brand" on your wrist. Some of them might look good (i thought about buying an armani watch too) but generally people who know something about watches dislike them.
check out some "watch forums" if you dont belive me. saying that armani is procuded by fossil isnt very positive either. Their automatic watches are crap or totally overpriced.
All I'm saying is that, if you like the watch, buy it. It looks pretty fancy enough and does its job.
Audemars Piguet
Vecharon Constantin
Breguete
A.Lange & Sohne
Jaeger LeCoultre
Tissot
Chronoswiss
FP Journe
Girard-Perragaux
Glashutte ORIGINAL
Omega
IWC
Blancpain
Patek Phillipe
a) I don't need one to impress potential partners
b) It does its job
c) I don't have the money
d) I couldn't care less
So the entire discussion is pretty obsolete for me, I'm just saying that some people that have a fair clue made these Armani watches, the pricing makes no difference here. As a side note, neither would I pay 300€ for a shirt or a pair of pants that has Armani written on them.
I got one of these:
costs are around 300/400 us dollars..
they are indestructible btw, you can even go surfing with the watch on, if u are planning on doing so
Some inspiration
btw today someone told me that "nomos" is actually the cheaper class/series of glashütte ?
some consider lange on a par with patek
and they don't start at $7k, more like $3k
but maybe one day.. :)
my mother has promised me a luxury watch for my 21st birthday next year, i'm thinking either a rolex explorer 2, or a lower end JLC/zenith
btw just found the watch for 2240€ (with date)
dont like the rolex explorer 2.. but thats just my taste :P
i somehow regret to have bought my tissot with metal bracelet instead of leather... altough i think its way easier to keep the metal ones clean when wearing the watch every day :/
Besides, phones are the new watches. Just keep getting the iPhone and you will be okay.
class is from the inside.

1966 seamaster 600 cal 601!
orient mako is a good choice, might get one myself as a beater, but go vintage ^ was ~$320
e: if you're gonna wear it with a suit, have the decency to get a leather strap
e2: ted baker is a good way to go for anything regarding formal clothing (suit/shues/shirts/ties etc.) - best quality/value ratio on the market imo
Let’s begin with the fact that a watch is a nice way to check the time but, as some people here already pointed out, that function more or less ran obsolete a long time ago with the introduction of mobile phones (or the numerous other possibilities to check time).
A watch is however one of the few things considered men’s jewelry. A feature which has resulted in a vast amount of collections to choose from.
In this topic we’ve seen mentions of clothing (fashion) brands like Diesel, Armani, DKNY as well as Fossil (accessories), the obvious Swiss watch houses like Patek Phillipe, Audemars Piguet and Rolex and not to forget the Japanese Seiko and Casio.
We also see people saying this brand is better than that and that one sucks compared to that.
Let’s just get one thing clear: they all tell you the time and they’re all accurate enough that you don’t need to worry about it.
However as others already have pointed out, you’re not buying a clock you’re buying a status object, a story, an image. So you need to ask yourself what you want your watch to say about you.
Buy a watch from one of the big fashion names and many people will accept it as a decent watch, something you just bought because you like the looks of it. It will however not get you much praise from someone who’s slightly more interested in watches than your average chump.
It’s a perfect buy if that is what you’re after, a watch that goes with the outfit.
*Note: The current fashion still sees a lot of big watches (44-50mm). Personally I find it annoying to see people with wall clocks wrapped around their wrist. Especially if they’re deliberately not pulling over their shirt just to show it off. For me 40-42mm is perfect 44 would be pushing it. Any bigger and I’d feel like a clown.
The other main mention in this topic are watches from the specialized watch houses. Now you’ll find most countries have at least one or two local watch manufacturers with some international reputation but the crème de la crème still resides in Switzerland.
These watch houses design beautiful watches but their true value lies in the technique that keeps the clock running. Whether it’s an automatic, tourbillon, chronograph, has a perpetual calendar or can tell you the position of the sun and the moon, you can be assured it has gone through years of research and development before that unique time piece became available in stores. This is why they come with a 4 digit minimum price tag.
Now I can’t tell you which watch you should buy. I can tell you to buy whatever you think looks nice if you decide on one of the fashion brands. Would you decide on a specialized watch house, don’t buy anything before you’ve done some looking around. There are still affordable watches which can be considered a stepping stone in that area. For instance Frederique Constant, a fairly new (1988) Swiss manufacturer who have watches starting from $400.
Either way buy what you want just know what they say :].
