Overclocking my E4600, help needed.

Hi!
I would like to overclock my CPU (Core 2 Duo E4600), but I don't know shit how should I do it. I am aiming for 3Ghz.
My cooling is great, my CPU is not going over 40°C during games.
Specs:
Mobo: http://hu.gigabyte.com/products/page/mb/ga-945gcm-s2c/
Memory: 2x1GB DDR2 Kingston 667Mhz
CPU: Core 2 Duo E4600 2,4Ghz

I have been reading forums for an hour now, but still I am not sure I could do it right. Please explain me from step to step, thanks.

bios->higher voltage/higher Ghz->HaveFun
is that seriously it :P? just give your engine more power?
Parent
pretty much yeah, thats what i did running on 4Ghz with 50°C :D
Parent
No, it is not it. It requires changing timings, power, NB and SB modifications and removing limiters etc...

Wouldn't risk it if you're unsure on what to do mate.
Visit - www.overclock3d.net... amazing forum.. got my Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz... say Dan sent you :)... they're tech experts in OC, watercooling, all hardware and software really.

Click community at top.
What cooler you got? I won't go above 3.2GHz with my Q6600 cause the temps : /

I have it at 3.4 stable but the temps were a little high for me

bios - turn everything to MAX
download overclocking programs - turn everything to MAX
Doesn't sound safe!

Sadly not got anymore. It was Noctua NP.

What cooler is it? If it's a stock cooler i wouldn't bother until you change it, i'd also reapply thermal paste if your going for a big overclock.

Doing it is pretty simple, Just go into bios turn your settings up bit by bit make sure its stable each time and keep an eye on temps, it's trial and error really, a small voltage increase can bump up your temps hugely so be careful with that.

I'd write down the max voltages your ram and cpu can take to so you know not to go past that. You'll probably get to a stage were you pc wont boot too means you've gone to far and need to drop the overclock down a bit.

It will take you a while to get a stable overclock too like i said its trial and error.

i'd use: coretemp.exe for monitoring temps its most accurate. and cpu-z to check your cpu settings in windows.
be carefull with it, dont set everything to max, it can cause a hard drive crash, and all your data will be lost :x
There is a great trial for overclocking your pc on www.prohardver.hu. you can find it in forums thats how i did before but i dont need anymore.
easy step by step thingy for you:

1. go to bios

2. increase FSB by 5/10 each step

3. boot windows and run prime95 for half an hour or something with coretemp to see temperatures - google for the recommended temperatures for your processor

4. if windows won't boot or if you get blue screen or your PC crashes, increase the processor voltage by a notch, and try to run the stress test again

the way to 3GHZ is not long and you should do fine without increasing ram voltage or north bridge voltage...

ALSO don't forget to disable C1E and EIST options in the bios.
if you need more help ask me
+1

I didn't disable C1E and EIST the first times I tried OCing, not fun times lol

Yes, if you reached your goal then yes.
now all you need to do is run prime95 for a whole night and see if a core fails or you get any errors.

good luck

btw what temps?
Parent
thanks. Also overclocked my gpu and I get 42°C stand by, and about 47-50°C ingame.
CPU: 28-32°C stand by, and about 40-45° ingame.
