my hamster just escaped & jumped from my balcony :S its like 4m high, i went after him and caught him again, he was fine :s just washing himself and eating a nut :) no but srsly? :S hamsters can fly? :S he stretched his legs and arms and jumped :S rly weird, looked like he was flying like a bat :S
Seeing that a hamster's weight/area ratio is relatively small, their terminal velocity is likely small too. This means that they simply can't fall very fast because of the drag. If the fall speed is low enough you won't die no matter how high you fall from, obviously. That's how parachutes work, they increase your area and drag coefficient, thus lowering your terminal velocity.
You can calculate the terminal velocities of objects using WolframAlpha for instance, if you just happen to know the drag coefficient and area of a hamster.
