what hz btw?
Parent
500hz :)
also thought about surface of the mousepad matters but w/e i dont want to be so strict
Parent
why play with over 3000 dpi
more dpi = better

in your mentality, why would gaming mouse producers put more than 3k dpi to the newest mouses in the scene?
Parent
:D

lol, give me a logical answer then. more dpi means, your mouse reacts faster to your reflexes, which is a good thing
Parent
but do you really think you have like a reaction time of 0.000001 ms or whatever? thats just bullshit.
Parent
also, the hertz are responsible how fast your mouse reacts to your movement (the hz represent the times that the mouse recognizes changes on the surface youre using your mouse on, in one second or smth), not your dpi.
Parent
Dots per inchs just relates to how far your mouse moves for every inch you move it. It won't react faster, it will just move further.

Higher dpi just allows you to use these higher sensitivities without pixel skipping.
Parent
high DPI are useless in FPS gaming. They might be good for other games like WOW
Parent
high dpi >>> than low dpi
Parent
we all know that and?
Parent
to sell you a retardedly expensive mouse
Parent
To make people spend money on stuff they dont really need, like a 3200 dpi mouse for example!
Parent
more than 1600 dpi is useless tbh, you wont feel much of a difference regarding accuracy etc...also its just marketing strategy (the more the better: "wow it has 90 000 000 dpi, that means its really good, so i have to get it!!!"), its not anything a usual gamer would really need.

but ok, youre some wise guy so i just let you sleep in your sweet dreams...or beautiful nightmares.

whatever.
Parent
im still rolling with around 800dpi setting on my razer :DD faster dpi and i cant aim for shit
Parent
i ALWAYS play with 800 dpi...even in bad company 2 and black ops.

more wont work for et (specifically) anyway.
Parent
oh it doesnt? never knew xd
Parent
All Q3 engine games were coded with 800 dpi in mind, thats techniquely the most accurate, however saying higher dpi doesn't work is also incorrect, go put your mouse to 1600dpi, its going to be much faster. DPI marketing is a joke, it depends on the quality of the sensor and the report rate of the mouse (125hz vs 1000hz)
Parent
i know, but i was talking of that 800 dpi for et.

i hope you didnt misunderstand me too much. :)

and yes, i also know about that reaction time stuff.
Parent
NNNope, iDTech 3 just uses an old Windows function to get the mouse movement, which means that if you have an atrociously high DPI (or a sufficiently low resolution), you might be getting the infamous cursor hitting side of screen -bug.

Practically the engine let's the mouse cursor move just like it would move on your desktop, but returns it to the center of your screen n times per second and calculates the distance it had moved from the center, then turns it into mouse movement in the game. If your DPI is too high, it will have time to hit the side of your screen before it is returned to the center. This results in extremely noticeable negative acceleration when doing 180 turns etc., but other than that I don't think there are any adverse effects to using a high DPI.

RInput fixes this, though, and also removes any and all Windows-caused acceleration you might have (this is present in at least XP and maybe in Vista even if you remove the 'Enhanced pointer precision' option, however, in Windows 7 turning off the option will remove all acceleration).
