really it's been one of the most awesome things in my life lately, smoking a nice joint and getting caught up in this epic adventure full of win and awesome actors.
I am sad it will end in a few days :/ guess imma go start reading the books then..

the purpose of books is to make your imagination do all the work (imagining characters, environments, fights, ...).
once you've seen all that on the screen, the book will never be as good as it should be.
a lot changes throughout game of thrones :)
One of the great things about this series however is the week by week suspense, the surprise and not knowing what's coming. If you read the books then try to watch the series it wouldn't be nearly as good. If however you wait for the series to be finished then read the books, you can still apprieciate the subtle nuances and the literary tale but you also got to enjoy it on TV.
However my advice to the journal author is not to watch the book until the entire series is actually finished. It would be impossible to "just try reading until the end of the first season", you would find yourself wanting more.
I do think that it does not make that much of a difference for a movie, though you always have a certain image of the characters and situations in your head after reading a book and if the actors are not good or if it's a low budget film you might get disappointed because your imagination makes you expect more. However, if the movie is really good that would mean that it exceeds your expectation, which is certainly a good thing.
Reading a book after watching the movie has some value since books mostly contain more information on side events which is interesting.
