Croatian Travel Tips Please

Hello CF,

Any Croatians around?

I'm going on holiday to Dubrovnik shortly so I would like to know if anyone has any travel tips or just general advice for someone from United Kingdom staying in country.

Many thanks,

Visit Severus, he's the coolest croat evah!
Ethr - when are you going? I'm leaving for croatia the 8th of july.
The island Bol - You should visit it, it's really a nice island - really romantic (if you are going with the girl?) and else also a great island to relax & enjoy the weather. Really friendly people!

Oh btw - walk the wall in dubrovnik - fucking exhausting & hot, but it is a nice walk.
Change your money there, not here in Europe. (don't know for England tho!)

This is my 8th year in Croatia with my parents & this year, I take my friends with me, It's a damn nice country, really friendly people & weather is almost always nice & steady.
yeh we were thinking of going to Bol :p it looked nice but really remote and you have to pay alot of money for the ferry every day I thought?

we'll go round the wall though, thanks :)

It is indeed about 17 € for a one-way ticket but It's certainly worth the money.
Bol is really nice, both culturaly & you can see the famous beach. "Golden Horn". :)

last year <3
where was that photo taken? :p

It's a highly overrated destination, so much better countrys in europe really.
mm, couple years ago it was the best destination without a doubt, now it is being overhyped, but it is still as great. Tell me one place that has the steady weather, same friendly people and great clear sea & beach?

I just didn't see much places which can tip to Croatia =)

QuoteI just didn't see much places which can tip to Croatia =)

i think you havent been in many countries then!
Parent
I've been around a lot ! :) I'm talking about the total package. I know beaches in France/Italy are fun too, but they don't have the total package.. But last years things are changing in Croatia, they're smelling tourism and starting to abuse it, so I will probably go look further soon.

The place that comes the closest to Croatia is Italy or Bulgaria :)
Parent
croatia is nice, no doubt. but there are many places in the usa which are more beautiful. same goes for some places in italy bulgaria spain norway sweden..
Parent
"so much better countrys in europe really"

& you are 100% right about the beauty of the places.
But every country has his downside, I guess I just fell in love with Croatia.
I've been in Italy/Spain/Bulgary/Portugal (which I really liked!)/Sweden (roadtrip) & apart from that I've been on a roadtrip through Eastern Europe avoiding every city we had ever heard about to see the unknown places.

But I rest my case at Croatia being the most friendly, I have to admit I've never really been to the middle of Croatia, always beaches. :)

Jersey all the way :D south france climate beach of 1 km long (TO SEA!!!!!) and the sand is soooo fine wooot i love it. 4 B holiday here i come.
Parent
Jersey xD lol never heard anyone from outside United Kingdom wanting to go there :p
Parent
I was born and raised there :D best island ever
Parent
what the fuck do u know? u live in a country with no sun
Parent
Ive been there to various place's, and you know under the summer in sweden the sun never go down ;). Stop be a bitch and cry about it homo.
Parent
Sweden is a no-go for me, just because it is so expensive :/
Even if you try to avoid the big cities, still if you want a good night out, you lose so much money :(
Parent
I can tell you its not much more expensive then croatia so....
Parent
but saying croatia is not awesome. u obviously didn't experience it in the way it's meant to be experienced.
Parent
Well i didnt find it that awesome so stop cry maybe its not for everyone.. Had a much nicer time in bosnia =p
Parent
Montenegro or really Bosnia?
Parent
Of course bosnia why you brind up montenegro? =D
Parent
Never been to Bosnia, always afraid of the guards :P
I've been to Montenegro & I had to cross a little part of B&H, I was scared the whole way.
Parent
Yeah, well i would not have gone there if wouldnt have friend from there with me.
Parent

Parent
Yes and "burek" <- spelling every morning haha and the pivo was cheap :D
Parent
hahahahah "the pivo" :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDd
Parent
Like what? France and Italy are overrated as well imo, Spain is too common...Portugal is expensive (from what I've heard) so next best thing seems Croatia :-)
Parent
I can tell you croatia aint cheaper then Portugal, the beach in algarve was much better then the ones ive seen in croatia =)
Parent
The big cities of Italy are overrated, the small ones are still as great as they were years ago !

general advice clubbing:

-if u meet a girl in a club and she seems too easy, it's a trap! her 200 cm and 120 kg skinhead boyfriend is prolly outside in the bushes ready to pickpocket u

-be careful with the prices and how much u drink in the clubs, u could easily be unpleasantly surprised.

-never walk alone in the night

-if u have to always take the main streets, and if u see a small group of really drunk people coming towards u, immediately take a sharp turn left or right ur pick.

-don't stare at people no matter how stupid or retarded they look.

-if u're gonna hit on a girl, always check at least 4 meters in diameter if there is a strange guy observing the crowd to see who's gonna try to flirt with his gf so he can pound him hard.

u'd think if he's her boyfriend he should be dancing with her and make out but noooooo. she's dancing alone and he's standing close by to see who's face he can smash. only in croatia

-when u're paying don't show everyone how fat ur wallet is.

-last but not least DON'T LOOK LIKE A TOURIST :DD

on the daylight I'm sure u can manage. I suggest u drink a coffee on the main square "Stradun" cause it's sooooo fucking expensive.
I never ever noticed these things in croatia? :D

think you are from a different part of Croatia from where I go on vacation :D
Parent
I also go on vacation on the coast. porec, pula, novi vinodolski, zadar. I experienced some of them there
Parent
not really. typical balkan
Parent
We never had any problems, after a couple days I always have 'friends' from the locals where I go, maybe it's just me :)
Parent
typical balkan idd.
Parent
same rules as in Lithuania :D

change your money locally, not in ur home country( expensive exchange fees)

infact, rather find a ATM there then take any money with you to exchange.

passport+ copys , foon to call bank when cards are rolled etc:D

enjoy the sun and dont drink the homebrewed liquor they like to give u there, its fucked up haha
