It looks like they're trying to unify all of their services, e.g. Google+, Gmail, Calendar etc. To me, the new youtube theme looks a lot like their Google+ theme, so I wouldn't be extremly surprised when a google bar appears at the top of youtube (the same one that's up @ search, google+, gmail etc).
