Video card broken?

About an hour ago, while playing TF2, it started crashing and at the end it gave me an error saying something about nvid4.dll or something failing and that i should reboot my computer. after it had rebooted i got a popup saying windows fixed a major problem or something, but when i keep going back into any game it gives me 20/30 instead of the 120 i used to have. after 2 min's into the game its start laggin as hell and i keep getting weird colors/stripes. for example the HUD instead of giving me numbers such as health etc etc, it gives me blocks. The thing is, this only happens ingame, so everything is completely perfect. but when i open a game it just starts flipping out on me :<. I tried updating my drivers, i've cleaned out my fans and thats pretty much it. Its an NVIDIA 9600GT.

So is it broken or wut?:<

*Just tried playing TF2 again... first 5 min it gave me 20/30 fps than i got my normal 120fps back for about a minute and than a huge lag, and this happend

weird color stripes can either be heat or rly a broken gfx card.
always try reinstalling driver before you declare your hardware as dead, even tho its not likely to help in this situation.
Check edit, looks like a broken gfx card?
Parent
honestly this does look more like a driver fuckup.
Parent
ok.. but how the hell did that happen after like 2 years of being just fine? i've not had a problem with this card in ages, and all of a sudden a driver starts bitching?
Parent
cause the longer a system runs smoothly the bigger the cockup when something does finally happen.
Parent
Sounds logical indeed. btw the fan is still spinning? probably means nothing but w/e. anyway im probably gonna call time of death here :< You happen to know if its hard to put in a video card by yourself? by the looks of it its 3 wires i need to unplug en plug back in right?
Parent
as i said try reinstalling the drivers first.
try to turn off the PC for a while to let it cool down and then try again to find out if it is the heat.
and if you buy a new gfx card: no its not hard to do. the inside of a PC is pretty much like the outside. you search for the fitting socket for your plug and just plug it in. i am not quit sure what you means with 3 cables but that could be the enegery cables from your powersupply. how many you need depends on the power of your card.

fisrt time i see you making a comment wich makes sens ^_^
Parent
im sorry but i think that tells us more about you than me
Parent
and what would that tell about me
Parent
that you "dont have much sense".
cause im usually quite good at it and i like to think that the people hating are pretty simple minded and naive. ofc i am teasing quite a lot but whatever i say is "based on facts"... or so id like to believe
Parent
as long as you believe urself you have sens everything is fine :)
Parent
oh and if it really is the heat cause it sounds like that a bit with it getting worse the longer you play: simply get yourself a Q-tip ancd clean out the dust from the fans (should do that to your CPU too actually)
Parent
Hmm thnx bro! <3
Parent
btw core temp was :
Core 1 : 42/47
Core 2 : 43/47

Without starting anything heavy like tf2 or css or smth.

bit high right?

Speedfan says my GPU is 122C.. That cant be good can it?
Parent
yeah man. looks like you can realy fix your problems without money :)
clean the fans from time to time. the temperature of a gfx w/o anything (but windows) runnings should not even be 20% (and i am making this number up cause i feel confident about it).
clean your hardware mate ;)
