My PC is a pile of shit and my 7950GT seems to be dying and is definitely hampering performance.
As far as I understand it, AMD/ATI provide far better value for money than nvidia these days, albeit with shittier drivers?
Anyway,
I found a HIS HD 5750 for £60 which I think is a pretty good deal.
It only has one DVI output but a HDMI -> DVI cable is only £2 or so.
I don't really keep up to date with pc components, so if anyone can offer advice/insight that would be much apprieciated.

i think they're kind of similar, though the 6670 seems kind of cheaper - i'm considering it but this 5750 seems quiet & pretty overclockable due to the arctic cooling fan
go for gtx500 series, 2+ gb ram. simple and good
I know nvidia have the better drivers particularly with linux, but I really don't want to spend more money than I have to (I'm a student)
Go for Nvidia if possible, havent been satisfied with it :/
and ati 6series is also ok
but dont go for nvidia 4 series ( 4 series is overheating alot , if u get one from 4series u need to add it watercooling )
But that you need it to watercooling? I don't think thats needed for the GTX470 or GTX480 if you have proper airflow.
BAD ASS
also that pic is doing things for me
thanks anyway!!
a 21" crt for fps games
well scout out the connections available if you want to make the most of your screen, ati drivers aren't AS BAD as they used to be but they're still finicky, if you want to use above 60fps for fps you will need to be able to use a dual link dvi
the main drawback with ati is theyre really behind in terms of software, but if you aren't bothered about stuff like cuda and 3d you just want some raw power at a good price then go for it, got a radeon hd 6800 myself which is two gpu's built into a single unit and it eats every game i've tried for breakfast, got it for £130 or so can't complain
and my intention was hdmi -> dvi -> LCD, and then dvi -> vga -> CRT
my lcd is max 75/60hz anyway but ofc dual-dvi is useful if i ever get a 120hz lcd!
why would you want a 75hz crt, too much space ? :D
didn't go school today, battled crime
i've had my current card since 2007 and it has played every game i've wanted to play at a good framerate until now... it is dying and needs replacing so i might aswell upgrade a bit and hopefully get through the next 4 years, and steal some more fps in hon/cod4/etc and be able to play fun casual games (eg, i bought magicka in the steam summer sale and can't run it on this :!)
worth every penny
