Look at Michael Schumacher. He is 10th. What's happend? Did he loose talent? i dont think so. Give him ferrari/redbull/mclaren and he will be on top same as almost every f1 driver
Yes Schumacher would be better with a different car, but he wouldn't drive as before. The car isn't everything. I bet he is less motivated, less ambitious and older. He has nothing to prove.
F1 is 10000x more exciting than golf, especially at the start of races. I can literally feel my heart pumping in my chest as i wait for the 5 lights to go out. The only other time I get that type of sensation is when playing in a close game of ET.
dont get me wrong i like the guy but ive never had that sensation playing a pc game. When im playing a close game of rugby or playing a final in a big stadium or lacrosse i love it guess thats the same feeling he was on about.
i do find it a little strange but i guess with the "esports" era its to be expected.
*edit the f1 bit i dont mind so much it was more aimed at the et bit. Recently started watching it a bit more and at some points it can actually be a bit interesting. Im not the engineer in my family so i guess thats why im not that interested brother loves it.
Once you get involved and follow it closely, it does get rather interesting. Many races can be quite dull, but most of the time there's a lot of drama both on track and off track. And as there's so much at stake for everyone involved in the whole F1 circus I find it rather compelling to follow the whole circus.
Having a general interest in motorsport and cars overall would of course help.
not really, different cars suite different drivers plus the car is a crucial part of the sport (technical development etc....) fixing the budgets (say $100million per team per season) and making the designs 'open' after a season has ended *might* help and also would give smaller teams a chance to compete

Allways watched 1st lap as kid and then changed channel cause after that its super boring.
now 20% driver 80% car.
