To be honest, at least the LoL developers had the balls to be different from the rest - and lo! the game is about ten times as popular as HoN and DotA combined, both on casual and competitive levels.
i dont really have anything against LoL and have even played it with Niki on numerous occasions, its an okay game for a bit of fun every now and then and is a lot more casual i'd say, i also think that HoN is a better game but it doesnt mean i cant enjoy both
So how can information even leak if it's basically just the original DotA mod copied on to the Source engine?
Fucking Valve and their unoriginality. What new are they presenting to the genre with this? Is there anything at all that is different from DotA or HoN apart from the textures and hero names?
the hero names arent going to be different in dota2, they're going to be exactly the same because it's a sequel, calling a sequel a rehash is just fucking retarded, of course it's going to be similar/basically the same
Despite what Valve wants you to think, copypasting the source code of the original game and adding some higher res textures while presenting absolutely nothing new to the gameplay is not called a creating sequel (Counter-Strike and CS:S, Left4Dead and L4D2...). Or are there new gameplay aspects promised for this? From what I gather, the map is exactly the same, the heroes are exactly the same, the basic mechanics are exactly the same.
You don't make movie sequels where the plot is the same as in the original, but this time the main character is called Johnny instead of Harry, and he has a rough stubble.
you cannot buy dota in stores nor download it online legally for free, you have to purchase warcraft 3 or download warcraft 3 illegally
dota is not the game, warcraft 3 is
people dont want new ideas, new maps, new nothing, they want dota, so that's what they get with fancy new graphics, nobody is making them buy it, they either buy it if they like or they dont buy it if they dont like it
edit; who cares if they charge you money for it, i'd rather a one off payment where you get everything and are the same as everyone else than it being free and you given the option of paying for extra/advantageous stuff or being at a disadvantage by a choice not to pay/farm a fuckload like in LoL
So why call it DotA2 instead of DotA: Source or something then? Why hype it in the first place if it's not any different from the game(s) you already have? Why bother with leaked information while you can already find all the information from the original game/mod?
Really, what amazes me is how much money you can make with zero originality. We already have S2 with HoN ripping off of DotA (although they have presented some heroes of their own, which hardly counts as new innovations though), and now Valve is going to join the club. How is the MOBA genre supposed to advance and thus keep up people's interest if we're already three games in (+ the neverheard Starcraft mods that came before DotA), and it hasn't changed one bit? People won't be interested in the same shit forever, you know.
What this genre needs is new ideas to keep it going, such as that new weird fast-paced king of the hill thingamajick coming to LoL. The change is inevitable, though: I expect this new DotA rehash to be the last one in the series before people finally realise they want something new, and the devs realise that people aren't going to pay for the same porridge on a different plate any more.
E: Don't get me wrong, I don't hate HoN or DotA - what puzzles me is why do we need a third game/mod recycling the same ideas.
from what i hear its called dota2, not DotA2, as in it doesnt stand for Defense of the Ancients anymore so i dont know what their choices behind that are really
the whole king of the hill shit is obviously going to be okay for a bit of fun and will appeal to the mass casual market of LoL but the competitive people dont want anything different from what DotA already is and you must know that, the same way if you're bored in ET you might play some jaymod/hide and seek/trickjump but you're not going to replace the standard 5v5/3v3 with it
it's the same reason ET is still how it is, playing on etpro, playing supply and grush, competitively speaking people dont like change
responding to your edit: people starting to dislike HoN/S2 for the way they run their game and that they preferred dota, but LoL is too different/casual to DotA/HoN for it to be a realistic alternative for some, i think most people are hoping dota2 will be the better alternative to HoN as the competitive moba game, then if they decide to do stuff in the future for it which i imagine valve will, so be it
Kinda funny u really think u can intimidate people the way you write about nonsense.
What's actually more funny is that you'll probably try to say that you don't write else as
an average cf member.
I am led to believe the problem with your understanding originates from your severe lack of proficiency in the English language.
I am sorry, but I am not going to write my comments in Simplified English just because my sentence structures are too complex for certain individuals to comprehend.

fitting picture:

dota2 is the first dota to be released AS A GAME
valve also have icefrog working for them on dota2, ONE OF THE MANS THAT CREATED THE ORIGINAL DOTA
now fuck off prick
Besides, that doesn't refute the game being just the same old ideas recycled all over again with the added bonus of a 50$ price tag.
