The truth about 'shrug' and its consequences
by: DoneX
Firstly allow me to apologise to all teams involved for the delay. It has taken time to get hold of and verify demos/mods as examples for our decision; something we have taken great care in considering.
Again it shows that the community is very involved with this and it showed that people really care what is going on within the community. And down the line, it has proven to be a very interesting week. Even for us it was very interesting what people think.
"Shrugging" itself is no bug.
The discrepancy between the hitboxes and the animation is also no "bug". However we did ban this because use of this in many movements (as used in "shrug-configs"), does not alter the hitboxes but does alter the animation of the models. In ETpro 3.1.0 hitboxes and models have NOTHING to do with eachother. However we have seen in multiple situations while using "shrug" that the model is further away from the hitbox, then it normally is.
These differences are smaller, when doing crouch strafe for example, but we believe "shrug" use is not needed during normal gameplay.
This was not stated specific enough before, but one way or another, the headhitbox can be assumed not being in the right position relative to the model or vice versa.
Therefore "shrug" was banned.
It is ClanBase's goal to minimize the discrepancies between the hitboxes and the models of which we are all aware of (like during prone, crouch, strafe).
To increase fair play in such matters, we decided to ban "shrug" during gunfights till such differences are minimized by ETpro or SD.
ETpro beta 3.1.9 did come with a solution b_realhead 1. Tests show that with this beta version "shrug" does not show significant differences. But for now, while we are using 3.1.0 version, it will remain banned until further notice.
To define this more clearly for any future event:
# Making "shrug" movements (in multiple situations) while being shot at, is considered to be illegal.
Logically, being really out of medpacks and accidently pushing the particular button will not result in a (full) penalty.
All teams had a decent warning with my newspost a few weeks ago. Also the sanction was made clear when using this (Red card + forfeit). The rule itself stands as that "shrug" was considered to be illegal. The reason however "hitboxes being altered" is however not entirely right. Its not just the hiboxes which are wrong, but the relative location between the model and its hitbox. As stated before by myself, it would be "assumed as a bug abuse or any other exploit abuse" to meet the proper penalty of such abuse.
Some discussion arose right after this incident, that there would be no difference and therefore the rule would not be justified. After a few days of testing "shrug", we came to the following conclusions:
1. During prone, there is a signifcant difference between the hitbox we are playing with now and where it is supposed to be.
Shrug while prone
The screenshots are showing that, the hitbox is clearly NOT in place of where the model is situated.
2. Standing upright, gave us another nice result.
Shrug stand
The old hitboxes were only visible in main and not in ETpro 3.1.0. Therefore we had to us "main" to view its hitboxes. However we had assurances from ETpro that, the hitboxes in "main" act the same as in ETpro 3.1.0 (also during shrug movements).
It occured to us that the hitbox in "main" was clearly bigger than the hitbox in ETpro 3.1.9. As we do not know the size of the headhitbox in ETpro 3.1.0, lets assume both cases. It also showed that the hitbox in "main" did not move at all during "shrug", but the head just moved within the hitbox.
* If the same (larger) size as in "main" would be applicable in ETpro 3.1.0, then people would be mislead if you look at the head itself. Our eyes assume the hitbox would equally centered around the head, but in fact it is the head moving and not the hitbox. This is something that CB believes to be uncalled for, since it affect the what players see compared to "non-shrug"/normal movements.
* If the hitbox from 3.1.0 would be equally sized as the one in ETpro 3.1.9 and taking into account that the hitbox is never moving in this upright position, the head would be moving outside the hitbox. So regardless the size of the hitbox both can give an unfair advantage for a player.
Also in this situation but in a different relative angle, we can see a clear difference between the location of the model and the hitbox. (look at Shug-stand screenshot)
These 2 situations are already enough to justify our ban of "shrug".
Again, ClanBase believes these differences between models and hitboxes should be minimized, while not harming the gameplay itself. We are aware of that strafe, crouch, prone combinations give even worse differences between model and hitbox. But these movements are necessary to play this game, shrug isnt.
If it cant be fixed by coding, we apply rules to improve fairplay.
Sadly, a player of Idle.eu forgot to remove its "shrug movements" from his config.
It was clear to us that this player did use "shrug" on numerous occassions including during gunfights. Unfortunately this accidental mistake will cost Idle.eu their game. Any use of shrug while being shot at/being in gunfights was not allowed and would be punished with a red card. It is a shame such event occured, looking at the good games we had during that match.
Therefore Roistot wins over idle.eu by 1 - 0 and advances through in ET EuroCup XI. idle.eu will receive a Red Card red card and full forfeit.

Btw for those who don't know what the "mine recharge bug on radar" means:
Back then when you put a mine down on ground where you couldn't plant it, you got your charge for the mine back. In radar defence this was abused by rifle players as they could throw a mine in the ground before enemy came in and then "fix" it to get full charge back after you shot your first rifle grenade. So basically you could shoot 3 rifle grenades in a row without having to wait for charge to regenerate.
+1
no im serious, i remember that i've tested a shitload of configs and in some cfgs you could see for a milisec someone behind a wall or smth, especially in supply's bunkers
or im talking about something else
I can confirm this.
Which American single handedly forced a third map in the Quakecon 2005 Grand Final, on what map and how many people did he take out using what?
